WATCH: Foreigner tries momma for the first time and he nearly couldn't get up

Photo Courtesy || Fearless and Far YT

Cordillera - In a zany quest for authentic Igorot experiences, Mike, a curious foreigner, embarked on an unforgettable journey to Sagada, Philippines. Eager to embrace local traditions, he bravely decided to try "momma" or betel nut chewing, an age-old custom of the Cordillerans.

Excitedly, with the helped of his new friends, Mike chomped down on the momma, unaware of the impending hilarity that would unfold. As the powdered lime called 'apog', tobacco, and betel nut concoction met his taste buds, his eyes widened with astonishment. Suddenly, he felt an eruption of heat, causing him to sweat profusely, turning him into a human fountain.

His attempts to maintain composure were futile, as his body jittered like a hyperactive kid on a sugar rush. Mike's heart danced the cha-cha inside his chest, while his mind wondered if he had inadvertently plugged into an electric socket.

In his video blog, Mike recounted this bizarre experience, leaving his viewers in stitches. He described the locals' meticulous process of preparing momma, carefully wrapping it with a 'gawed' leaf, which he hilariously mistook for an origami masterclass gone wrong.

As he regained his senses, Mike couldn't help but laugh at his misadventure. Despite the whirlwind of sensations, he applauded the cordial Cordillerans for preserving their unique culture through this age-old tradition. However, he did issue a friendly warning to future adventurers, advising them to approach momma with caution unless they're eager to become the next comedy sensation.

From Underprivileged Student to Successful Doctor: A Teacher's Act of Kindness Changes a Life Forever

Photo Courtesy || Angeline Marcelle Pawid

Cordillera - In the annals of teaching, there are moments that leave an indelible mark on the hearts of educators. For one teacher, that moment came during the examinations when she witnessed an incident that touched her deeply and forever changed her perspective on education and the resilience of the human spirit.

Mrs. Angeline Marcelle Pawid, an experienced and dedicated teacher in Cordillera, was going about her usual business, preparing her class records during the examination period. Little did she know that her life was about to intersect with that of a determined and courageous student. As she glanced up from her work, she saw a young boy desperately trying to negotiate with the school treasurer to allow him to take the exams despite his inability to pay the miscellaneous fees.

The treasurer explained that school policy required all students to clear their obligations before sitting for the final exams. It was a rule that aimed to foster a sense of responsibility and accountability among the students. But as the student, with tears in his eyes, returned home to fetch his "piggy bank," Mrs. Pawid couldn't help but feel the weight of injustice and the stark contrast between the haves and have-nots in society.

Unable to contain her emotions, Mrs. Pawid stepped outside the faculty to regain her composure. As she reflected on the incident, her heart swelled with admiration for the young boy's determination to pursue his education despite facing financial hardships. It was at that moment she resolved to make a difference in his life.

"I went out the faculty to avoid that incident but I was out crying saying to myself, why are there kids who have the money, yet they didn't like to go to school and here comes a student abandoned by his father and still trying to finish his studies," Mrs. Pawid wrote.

She approached the student and offered to shoulder his miscellaneous fees, ensuring that he could take the exams and continue his education. This simple act of kindness would be the turning point in the young boy's life and would sow the seeds for a remarkable journey of success and perseverance.

True to her belief in him, the student, whose name we withhold for privacy, blossomed academically. In his fourth year of high school, he demonstrated extraordinary talent and dedication, topping the National Achievement Test (NAT) examinations and emerging victorious in various academic competitions.

With Mrs. Pawid's unwavering support, he also secured a scholarship for college, setting his sights on becoming a doctor. The Campus Bayani award recognized his outstanding achievements, opening even more doors to a brighter future. Today, that once financially challenged student is pursuing his dreams in college with a full scholarship, all thanks to the compassionate teacher who saw his potential.

Mrs. Pawid's story doesn't end with this one student; she has touched the lives of countless others throughout her teaching career. As she reflects on her journey, she humbly acknowledges the difference she has made in shaping the lives of her students.

"I know, I have helped a lot of students go there way, and now I say, I am a fulfilled teacher, Mrs. Pawid said. Thanks to my students who never forget me as their teacher," she added.

In a world where education is often taken for granted, this heartwarming tale reminds us of the power of empathy, compassion, and the impact a single act of kindness can have on a young life. Mrs. Pawid's dedication and the young student's perseverance are a shining example of the transformative power of education and the importance of supporting every child's dreams.

As for that ambitious young boy, his future is bright, and he is now a doctor—a testament to the potential that lies within each student when nurtured with love and encouragement. Together, they have proven that no obstacle is insurmountable when hearts unite to create a brighter and more promising tomorrow.

Honest Lolo and grandson in Ifugao return P305,000 they found

Photo Courtesy || Asipulo PNP

Cordillera - In the small town of Asipulo, Ifugao, a truly inspiring story has captured the hearts of many. The remarkable actions of a grandfather and his grandson have sparked praise and admiration throughout the community, reminding us all of the power of honesty and compassion.

It was a rainy day, filled with the remnants of typhoon Betty, when William Anudon and his grandson, CJ Buccahan, stumbled upon a life-changing discovery. Nestled along the Bahag-Amduntog Provincial Road, they uncovered a substantial sum of P305,000 in cash. Instead of allowing temptation to cloud their judgment, their unwavering moral compass guided them towards a remarkable decision.

Without hesitation, despite being drenched and shivering from the cold, the determined grandfather made his way to the Asipulo Municipal Police Station to return the money to its rightful owner. When asked about their selfless act, William explained that returning the substantial amount was simply the right thing to do. They understood that keeping the money for themselves would be wrong, for it did not belong to them.

Reflecting on the lessons instilled by their parents, the grandparents emphasized the importance of honesty. They passed on this invaluable virtue to their grandson, CJ Buccahan, a remarkable grade 7 student at Asipulo National High School. The young boy's heartwarming involvement in this act of integrity further amplified the impact of their actions.

The tremendous display of character did not go unnoticed. One kind-hearted policeman, deeply moved by their honesty and integrity, rewarded CJ with P500 in recognition of his outstanding deed. However, the true reward lies not in material gain but in the invaluable life lessons and virtues they have cultivated.

This heartening story does not end here. In a remarkable turn of events, it was discovered that the owner of the money had inadvertently dropped an additional P600,000. Demonstrating their unwavering commitment to doing what is right, the townspeople quickly returned the additional sum within a few short hours.

This inspiring tale serves as a testament to the power of integrity and the profound impact it can have on our lives and communities. The actions of William, CJ, and the Asipulo community have rekindled faith in the inherent goodness of humanity. They have reminded us that even in the face of adversity, when given the opportunity to choose between right and wrong, our innate goodness can shine through.

Let this extraordinary story be a beacon of inspiration for us all. May it encourage us to uphold the values of honesty, integrity, and kindness in our own lives, and may it remind us that together, we can create a world where acts of goodness and compassion are celebrated and cherished.
