Cordillera - Igorota beauty queen Roxanne Baeyens who represent the Philippines in Miss Earth 2020 has unveiled her new costume in the Asia and Oceana group competition on Thursday Nov. 19, 2020.

Her national costume was inspired by the Philippine folktale legend "Si Malakas at Si Maganda" and was created by designer Jorick Lopez Limpag.

Baeyens shared on her Facebook accounts the story behind her costume:

"This costume was inspired by the legend of Malakas and Maganda, a folktale in the Philippines where humanity has started.

The bamboo that was broke in half by the bird, a symbol of where we could fly again. As the Earth faces this pandemic, this costume proudly synthesizes the hardships of those who battled the pandemic with its headpiece that can be converted into a mask, made out of rubber curves and gemstones.

A crown that is pictured like a sun, the rise of new beginning. The dress that resembles colors that of the Earth, a nature we see through its beauty, a picture of Malakas and Maganda's originality. Cut out from beads that mirror the leaves and gemstones.

Jewelries around the neck, hands and feet inspired by the roots of trees, to remind that we are rooted to the planet we call Earth.

A pair of wings carved with rubber slices, capiz and stones, like we are ready to fly.

Within this costume, it can be said that the sun will rise, we will try, and we will fly again, like a folktale we all know. We are all beautiful creatures who are strong."
