Bontoc farmers turn paddy field into a breathtaking works of art

Photo Courtesy || Gretchen Lippad Buasen

Cordillera - In a mesmerizing display of creativity and agricultural ingenuity, rice farmers in Bontoc, Mountain Province, have turned their paddy fields into canvases, producing breathtaking works of art that have captivated social media users worldwide.

On September 15, 2023, Gretchen Lippad Buasen took to Facebook to share awe-inspiring photographs of the Rice Terraces of Bontoc. These images showcased a remarkable fusion of agriculture and artistry, with intricate designs adorning the lush green rice paddies.

These designs encompassed a wide range of themes, including religious messages like John 3:16 and patriotic slogans like 'In God we Trust,' as well as heartfelt expressions like 'Loving Arms' and 'God Loves Bayyo,' among others.

This unique form of artistry, known as rice paddy art, originated in Japan in 1993 as a means of regional economic revitalization. Instead of traditional paint, rice paddy artists use different varieties of rice plants with varying colors to create colossal pictures on the fields, effectively turning the fertile land into their canvas.

The breathtaking artistry in Bontoc's rice fields not only showcases the farmers' dedication but also highlights the harmonious coexistence of agriculture and art, adding another layer of cultural richness to this picturesque region.

Visitors and locals alike are eager to explore this unique fusion of farming and artistry that has put Bontoc on the map for a different kind of natural beauty.

The Municipality of Bontoc, nestled in the northern part of the Philippines, boasts Maligcong as one of its sixteen captivating barangays. Spanning an expansive 1,160 hectares, Maligcong is home to the breathtaking Maligcong Rice Terraces, a gem in the region's tourism crown. Perched atop Mt. Kupapey, this natural wonder is a testament to the indigenous wisdom passed down through generations, with "Maligcong" itself signifying field leveling, exemplified by these magnificent terraces.

Family in Mt. Province Builds Stunning Two-Story House on Solid Rock Foundation

Cordillera - In the picturesque town in Mt. Province, a family has crafted a remarkable two-story house perched upon a sturdy rock, just above a tranquil river.

This awe-inspiring architectural feat showcases the advantages of building upon a solid foundation.

While many structures are erected on soil or weak ground, this family's decision to construct their home on a rock brings numerous benefits.

The first advantage lies in stability and durability. The unyielding rock foundation ensures the house can withstand natural forces like earthquakes and floods, providing unmatched safety and peace of mind for the family.

Photo Courtesy || Municipality of Bontoc

Cordillera - In a heartwarming display of generosity, Hazel Cassandra Lingbanan, affectionately known as "Gagsi," showed that age is just a number when it comes to helping others.

On the occasion of her 7th birthday, the young girl from Samoki, Bontoc, decided to donate all her savings to victims of a recent fire in their community.

Gagsi's piggy bank had been filling up for months with her savings from various chores and tasks around the house.

When she heard about the devastating fire that had destroyed many homes in her village, she knew she wanted to do something to help.

Without hesitation, she broke open her piggy bank and counted out her hard-earned savings, which came to a total of P3,155.

Her mom were touched by her selflessness and decided to accompany her to the local relief center to make the donation.

Gagsi was beaming with pride as she handed over her savings to the officials, who were amazed by her kind gesture.

Her mom said that they were proud of her and hoped that her act of kindness would inspire others to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Gagsi's act of kindness has reminded us that no matter how small we are, we can make a big difference in the lives of others.

Indeed, Gagsi has shown us that the true meaning of birthday celebrations is not just about receiving gifts, but also about giving back to those who need it the most.

Couple from Bontoc, Mt. Province celebrated wedding anniversary by donating food to the frontliners

Photo Courtesy || Jen Basco & MDRRM Office
Cordillera-  A couple from Bontoc celebrated their wedding anniversary by making a difference and sharing their blessings to others.
While the whole town is on Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), celebrating especial occasions doesn't necessarily have to be the usual norm.

The couple Mr. Raymundo Basco and Mrs. Jen Basco decided to celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary with practicality and so much consideration of other people.

Their celebration was complemented with generosity and kindness by providing snacks to the front liners through the Bontoc Operations Center (OpCen).

They donated a box of pineapple and peanut bread, 12 bottles of local organic honey and three packs of organic muscovado sugar.

For most married couples, celebrating a marriage milestone is something exclusive and considered a very significant occasion.

It is more than celebrating a win, survival, or achievement that made this occasion extra especial. So, don't wonder why other couples celebrate wedding anniversaries grander than their wedding.

Meanwhile, the kindhearted Mr. and Mrs. Basco,  owner of Rio Chico Marketing, could have just saved their  money or postponed their celebration until this pandemic is over. Then, plan for a  grander celebration with family and friends.
However, they chose generosity and kindness and made a difference by celebrating their life and union together as a couple by becoming a channel of blessing to other people.

Our best wishes and greetings for the couple. May you receive more blessings as you both grow old together!
