Cordillera - The Municipal Local Government of Bontoc, Mountain Province representing the Barangay Local Government of Maligcong and its residents has filed a Petition to Declare the Maligcong Rice Terraces as a National Culture Treasure (NCT) to the office of the National Commission of Culture and Arts.
In the petition, Bontoc LGU is asking the Commission to declare Maligcong Rice as NCT under Republic Act No. 10066 otherwise known as "AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE PROTECTION AND CONSERVATION OF THE NATIONAL CULTURAL HERITAGE, STRENGTHENING THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR CULTURE AND THE ARTS (NCCA) AND ITS AFFILIATED CULTURAL AGENCIES, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES."
The Municipality of Bontoc, nestled in the northern part of the Philippines, boasts Maligcong as one of its sixteen captivating barangays. Spanning an expansive 1,160 hectares, Maligcong is home to the breathtaking Maligcong Rice Terraces, a gem in the region's tourism crown. Perched atop Mt.
