Igorot cop appointed Deputy Regional Director for Administration PNP Police Regional Office 9

Cordillera - The Philippine National Police (PNP) has appointed PCOL Victor Wanchakan as the  new Deputy Regional Director for Administration PNP Police Regional Office 9.

PCOL Wanchakan from Mt. Province was among the 23 police officials who were installed to a new position in the PNP after the retirement of several senior officials.

PNP Chief Debold Sinas named PCOL Wanchakan to serve as the Deputy Regional Director for Administration PNP Police Regional Office 9 on January 2021.

Also, on April 15, 2021, PCOL Wanchakan has taken oath as the new member of the NAPOLCOM Regional Appellate Board.

The NAPOLCOM Regional Appellate Board is a formal administrative disciplinary machinery which functions to decide all cases on appeal from decisions of the PLEBs and PNP Regional Directors where in the imposable penalties are demotion in rank, dismissal, and those of the mayors in cases falling within their respective jurisdictions. 

The Regional Appellate Board also decides on appeals from decisions of the Regional Directors on claims for police benefits.

Igorot PH Army General is new commander of the Army Signal Regiment

Cordillera - An Igorot general from Cordillera has been named as the new commander of the Army Signal Regiment (ASR) of the Philippine Army during the turnover ceremony held in Fort Bonifacio on Monday. 
Brigadier General Milton Y. Beset was installed as the new commander of the ASR replacing Brigadier General Vener Odilon D. Mariano. 

The Bontoc, Mountain Province born and Baguio raised B/Gen Beset, was the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications, Electronic and Information System (CEIS) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. 

A graduate of the Officer Candidate School in 1990, B/Gen spent his junior officeship with the First Scout Ranger Regiment, Philippine Army before he trod his career with the military signal, communication, and cyber warfare, as a graduate of Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) at Saint Louis University, Baguio City. He is also a licensed Engineer.
B/Gen Beset further honed his skills as Military Officer and Cyberwarfare expert with his various schooling, both local and abroad, and his assignments to various positions in the Armed Forces, particularly on matters pertaining to signal communication and cyber warfare or C4ISTAR.

He finished his elementary at Pinsao Elementary School, Pinsao, Baguio City, and his high school at Easter School, Guisad Baguio City.

Igorot cop from Bauko, Mt.Province recieves PNP 'Medalya ng Kasanayan'

Cordillera - An Igorot cop has been given the Philippine National Police (PNP) Medalya ng Kasanayan for his meritorious display of competence as Acting Chief of Police of Glan Municipality in the province of  Sarangani. 

PLTCOL. Neil "Kally" Sally Wadingan received the medal as a recognition for his competence in leadership where he has achieved 75% operational accomplishments set by PRO 12. 

In his stint as Acting Chief of Police, Wadingan has put Glan municipality in rank number 1 on Anti Drugs and Enhanced Managing Police Operation, according to a General Order issued by Police Brigadier General Lubria on August 6, 2020.

"Imbued with professionalism and sincerity in the performance of this tasks, PLTCOL Wadingan deserves recognition not only in the Police Regional Office 12 but the entire Philippine National Police," the General Orders reads. 

PLTCOL Wadingan trace its roots from Otucan, Bauko, Mt. Province.

Young son of Sabangan, Mt.Province to graduate from PMMA "Masakbayan" class of 2020

Cordillera - A young son of Sabangan, Mt. Province is among the 224 brilliant and dashing cadets of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) who will be graduating on June 12, 2020. 

A congratulatory message from friends and family is extended to sir Denser Gabe D. Sadlay for his unimaginable sacrifices and hardwork together with determination, perseverance and faith to finish what he had started in the academy. 
Sadlay is the only graduating cadet who hails from the said municipality.

PMMA is a premier state-run maritime institution which provides academic and professional training for merchant marine officers.

It is directly under the supervision of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) and the Philippine Navy. 
It offers two major baccalaureate programs: the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering. 

Graduates from the said academy shall serve in different private shipping companies, foreign or local. They may also serve in the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Navy. 

All PMMA midshipmen are automatically appointed as ensigns (equivalent to 2nd Lieutenant in the Philippine Marine) by the president of the country.

Cordilleran Police Cpt. Dulagan gets Highest Standard Leadership Award in VIP Security and Protection Course

Cordillera - Police Captain Christopher "Chriz" Comicho Dulagan has been given the Highest Standard Leadership Award in VIP Security and Protection Course on 4th May 2020 at the Sambibig Hall, PSPG Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City. 

The 27-year old Dulagan was the a former Man of the Philippines who traces his roots from Sagada, Mountain Province. 

In 2017, he was the lucky guy to represent the country in the Man of the World, an international male pageant held in Pasay city. 

He won the Man of the World Philippines title in 2016 in the Misters of Filipinas 2016 national pageant.

Dulagan works in the Philippine National Police (PNP) Aviation Security Group at NAIA Terminal 1. 

The VIP Security and Protection Course is a 3 months course training in Academic, Tactics and Marksmanship. 

The course will equip participants with the necessary skills one needed to become an excellent police officer trained for securing and protecting VIPs.

iSagada Covid-19 Survivor turned to faith and prayer, says COVID-19 is not a joke

Cordillera - A brave COVID-19 survivor from Sagada turned to faith and prayer as his motivation to fight the deadly virus. 

"Let's always keep our faith in the Lord burning. He answers all prayers. We stay safe and healthy". says Law Aben Timpac who was discharge from the hospital after recovering from the virus.
The coronavirus is an infection in the lungs that includes some cases of what people would call the common cold. When it worsens, it can causes havoc with the immune system that can lead to long-term lung damage or death. 

There are no specific treatments or cure for covid-19 as yet, though some scientists are working to create a vaccine for it. 

For these reasons, Law has a message to everyone. 

"May I set as a proof that this COVID-19 is not a joke. May we have the discipline. It would also be critical to unite with our government in order to cease this pandemic," Timpac wrote in a FB post.

He also thank his supportive family including the Baguio General Hospital frontliners who took good care of him during his quarantine. 
"I'd like to thank my ever supportive family and friends and a lot of people including the frontliners of Baguio General Hospital who fought with me throughout my struggle with the COVID-19. It was rough but with your message and prayers, we won the battle," he said.

On Thursday, The Benguet General Hospital decided to have a heartwarming send-off ceremony for Timpac, who were met with with applause from the frontliners and hospital staff.

"Thank you Baguio General Hospital staff for making my send-off a super duper special one. I can't express how delighted I was with your effort. Thank you," Timpac said.

Two more centenarians in Mt. Province to receive P100,000 cash gift from national government

Cordillera - To ensure that they will be provided with enough cash to spend for their basic needs and medical assistance, the local government of Mt. Province is set to provide two centenarians with cash incentives. 
Mt. Province PIO said two more residents in the province were included in the list of provincial awardees who are set to be awarded with P100,000 cash incentives coming from the national government. 

Avelina Placido, 100 and a resident of Gayang, Sabangan and 100-year old Petra Segat of Lubo, Tadian were both the sixth centenarian to receive the award in their respective municipality, the report said.


It added that Mt.Province governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. personally turned over congratulatory resolution, a plaque of recognition and a check amounting to P30,000 each on January 21.
Under RA 10868, all Filipinos who reach the age of 100 will receive a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines and a P100,000 cash gift, whether they are residing in the Philippines or abroad.


Centenarians are also entitled to awards and incentives from their respective city or municipality after being determined by the local government unit.

Son of a miner from Sabangan, Mt. Province promoted One-Star PNP General

Cordillera - Cordillerans will have another reason to be proud of as another police officer was promoted to chief superintendent which is one of the highest ranks in the Philippine National Police that is equivalent to brigadier general in the military.

Dennis Lingat Basngi, a son of former miner of Sabangan, Mt. Province joined the ranks of high ranking police and military generals after being promoted one-star PNP General on June 29, 2017.

PCSupt. Basngi was popularly known in his PNP alias as "Bangis" meaning 'ferocious' for his commitment and vigorous leadership in the field of law enforcement.

He was a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Maringal" Class of 1988 and was the sparring mate of former PNP Police Director Dela Rosa during his cadetship. 

Before joining the PMA, Basngi took his high school diploma at San Alfonso High School in Sabangan then graduated engineering at Saint Louis University in Baguio city. 

PCSupt. Basngi holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration. He received numerous awards and commendations from the Military and Police. 

He also went to Thailand and Timor Leste and acquired courses related to the police service.

The new Igorot PNP General spent his early career in the police force by volunteering in conflict-stricken parts of Mindanao. 

His excellence in the service made him the top pick to join the elite PNP SAF Special Action Force which is headed by a fellow Igorot Benjamin M. Lusad of Mt. Province.

Basngi's notable accomplishments include leading the police operation during the Zamboanga Seige in September 2013.

He was awarded the 'Medalya ng Kagitingan' for his impressive work in leading city's police office until its liberation from the armed group.

Congratulations Mt. Province for being recognized as one of the 2019 National ADAC Performance Award

Cordillera - The local government of Mountain Province has been recognized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as one of the 2019 National Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Awardee in the recently concluded ADAC Performance Audit. 

For its exemplary efforts and strong support of the government's national anti-drug program, Mt. Province had been conferred this year the 2019 ADAC Ideal Performance Award. 

According to the Mt. Province PIO, the province was the only provincial ADAC in Cordillera region that achieved the 2019 ADAC national awards alongside with the municipality of Barlig and Bauko, Mt. Province and the municipality of Tineg, Abra.

The National ADAC Performance Award recognizes Local Governments exemplary efforts in complementing the national government's efforts in eradicating the country from illegal drugs.

"The national government's recognition to our exemplary efforts in the performance of our duties shows the province's very strong support to the current administration's efforts in curbing and ending the proliferation of illegal drugs. Let us continue all the good which we have started," Mt. Province Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. said.

Based of the 2019 ADAC Performance Audit results, Mt. Province garnered Ideal score of 100 points.

US travel magazine lists Apo Whang-od among 10 Filipinos transforming the nation through sustainable tourism

Cordillera - New York-based travel magazine Travel And Leisure had listed Apo Whang-od as one of the great Filipino personalities who are transforming the country through sustainable tourism. 

The magazine has partnered with the Department of Tourism to feature Filipinos who are making big differences in their community through thoughtful and sustainable tourism. 

Among them was Apo Whang-od Oggay, also known as Maria Oggay, the last and oldest mambabatok from Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga. 

"At 103 years old, Apo Whang-od - member of an indigenous group that inhabits the mountains above the Chico River - is a living treasure of Kalinga, Province. Whang-od inked her first design at the tender age of 15, and nearly a century later, she's still giving charcoal-ink tattoos to visitors in her tiny village of Buscalan, using the thorn of a calamansi tree to draw intricate patterns, She's also looking to the future, training locals to carry on Kalinga tattooing traditions." reports Travel + Leisure website.

In 2018, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) had conferred to Apo Whang-od the prestigious Dangal ng Haraya Award at Tabuk City. 

Whang-od was nominated for the National Living Treasures Award (Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan) in 2017. 

Up to this day, Whang-od is still giving tattoo sessions to local and international tourists who come to visit her at her place in Buscalan.

Igorota from Mt.Province is World of Difference 2019 Awardee in Sydney, Australia

Cordillera - Due to her initiative and outstanding work in the empowerment and advancement of women in her community, Zefora Bastian-Bosongan is one of the awardees of this year's World of Difference Award from the International Alliance for Women(TIAW) on October 18.

The World of Difference award is a recognition and appreciation to the world's outstanding corporative initiatives for women's economic empowerment.

Bosongan is the only Filipino among the 14 recipients from various countries who have been awarded for their important work in their own community. 

Bosongan is the founder and president of Inabe Livelihood Group, Inc located in Angcabat, Guinzadan Central, Bauko, Mountain Province. 

The group was established to create job opportunities to women in the countryside by giving them training and practice how to weave traditional and modified hand-woven fabrics.

The final products includes fashion dresses, bags, home accessories and souvenir items that are all made with traditional Cordilleran hand-woven fabrics. 

The Inabe Livelihood Group was pleased with the recognition Bosongan received. 

According to the group, Bosongan had works in some projects runway for OFWs women in Hongkong and in the locality with Civic Groups. 

She also works in the employment of less fortunate women and delivered talks internationally for the advancement of women.

MMA figther Dave Banguingui from Mt. Province wins ONE Warrior Series via 2nd Round Submission

Cordillera - Another promising young Igorot Mixed Martial Artist is making its way as one of best figther in ONE Championship. 

Dave Donguis Banguingui defeated Albeir Correiaba Silva of Brazil in the recently concluded ONE Warrior Series event held in Singapore last week.  

The 23-year old from Bauko, Mountain Province is being tagged as one of the promising athletes to sign up with the ONE Championship roster. 

He made his successful debut with Rich Franklin's ONE Warrior Series last month when he defeated Indian figther Susovan Ghosh with a stunning second-round KO. 

Banguigui is a good striker and he is also mastering his ground game. His two recent fights shows his scrambling ability and submission. 

He has the ability to control the match, submit his opponent to the ground and follow with barrage of ground and pound or end the contest with rear-naked choke. 

Rich Franklin's ONE Warrior Series (OWS) is a development league aims to look for the best fighter in the world with a chance to bagged a deal worth more than US$100,000.

Meanwhile fellow Igorot figther Lito Adiwang was also successful in the league and successfully got a contract to fight in ONE Championship.
