Two more centenarians in Mt. Province to receive P100,000 cash gift from national government

Cordillera - To ensure that they will be provided with enough cash to spend for their basic needs and medical assistance, the local government of Mt. Province is set to provide two centenarians with cash incentives. 

Mt. Province PIO said two more residents in the province were included in the list of provincial awardees who are set to be awarded with P100,000 cash incentives coming from the national government. 

Avelina Placido, 100 and a resident of Gayang, Sabangan and 100-year old Petra Segat of Lubo, Tadian were both the sixth centenarian to receive the award in their respective municipality, the report said.

It added that Mt.Province governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. personally turned over congratulatory resolution, a plaque of recognition and a check amounting to P30,000 each on January 21.

Under RA 10868, all Filipinos who reach the age of 100 will receive a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines and a P100,000 cash gift, whether they are residing in the Philippines or abroad.

Centenarians are also entitled to awards and incentives from their respective city or municipality after being determined by the local government unit.

Cordillera records 120 people living longer life at age 100

Cordillera - The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has recorded 120 individuals who are centenarians according to the latest survey conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). 

"As of March 21, the Cordillera has recorded 120 residents who have reached the age of 100", DSWD Cordillera marketing unit chief, Nerizza Faye Villanueva said. 

Included is the list of centenarians was "Apo Whang-Od" of Kalinga. Whang-od is considered as the oldest traditional "mambabatok" or tattoo artist in the country. She uses an old traditional method of tattooing where she incorporates the use of ink from the mixture of charcoal and water and uses three thorn to imprint through skin. 

Whang-od is the ninth centenarian from the province of Kalinga and she just celebrated her 100th birthday last March 7.

All of the centenarians had received a Php100,000.00 cash gift from DSWD and a letter of felicitation from the President and also a special incentives from their local government. 

According to PNA.gov, there are 30 centenarians in Abra, 27 in Mountain Province, 21 in Benguet, 13 in Baguio City, 11 in Ifugao, 9 in Kalinga and 9 in Apayao. 

An interesting story of a centenarian from Bontoc shared his story how he was able to reach the age of 100.

Mr. Herbert Malecdan Todyog, a native of Bontoc shared that living in the village eating organically-grown food like camote, banana, squash and legumes are the reasons he believed help him reach 100 years. He said that he has never been hospitalized, has strong legs and has a clear eyesight.

Todyog received Php100,000.00 from the social welfare department and another cash worth Php30,000.00 from his local government.

Cordillera - If you have grandparents who are nearly reaching 100 years of age then it is time for you to help them prepare needed documents for them to avail of the cash incentives provided by the government of the Philippines to any Filipino who have reach the age of 100. 

Under Republic Act 10868, all Filipinos who reach the age of 100 will receive cash gift worth PHP100,000 and a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines, whether they are residing in the country or abroad.

Aside from that, they will also be awarded with a plaque of recognition and additional cash gift from their respective city or municipality, to be determined by the local government.

How can a centenarian avail of the cash gift?

According the guidelines set forth by the Department of Social Welfare and Development or DSWD, a centenarian who wish to avail of the incentives must present his or her birth certificate or Philippine passport for verification of the C/MSWDO and OSCA. If said documents are not available, the centenarian may present his or her senior citizen's identification card (ID) or any other Philippine-issued ID which shows his or her citizenship and date of birth.

If all of the above mentioned documents and IDs are not available, they can present a marriage certificate, old school documents, baptismal or confirmation records and birth certificate of children. 

In the event that your lolo or lola has no written documents or papers to show, they can make an affidavit executed by at least two (2) disinterested persons at least 80 years old with personal knowledge of the centenarian's actual age or date of birth.

When all the required documents or affidavit are complete, the immediate families or relatives of the centenarian can submit them at the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO). The MSWDO will verify to ensure that all the necessary documents are complete and will provide technical support and guidance in what to do next.

The process usually takes time for the MSWDO to finish after which they will forward the verified documents to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer for review and referral at the DSWD-Regional Office. The DSWD will also undertake continuous monitoring of the identification of beneficiaries and disbursement of funds. 

Once verified, the incentives will be released to the centenarian on the first Sunday of October or during the actual 100th birthday of the beneficiary, according to DSWD.
