Cordillera - LTC Remigo A Dulatre GSC (INF) PA, the former Battalion Commander of 86th Infantry (Higlander) Battalion, 5lD, PA based in Jones, Isabela covering the provinces of Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya and Southern Isabela, was adjudged as the Best Battalion 2018.

He received the award  of DSSP KAPAYAPAAN given by Gen. Benjamin Madrigal, Jr. AFP, the former Chief of Staff, AFP at GHO, CGEA.

He is also an awardee of the Meritorious Achievement Medal award and was awarded to him by Gen. Madrigal at Headquarters Northern Luzon Command last 2019 for the successful dismantling of Southern Front Committee ng Komiting Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley (SFC, KR-CV).

The successful dismantling of the Guerrilla front was the first in 5lD which caused the insignificance of the CPP-NPA-NDF and forced their remnants to abandon their former lairs in the municipality of Jones, Echague, San Guillermo, San Agustin and Angadanan or the JESSA Complex.

As a result, the said municipalities are benefiting from the successful campaign against the insurgents. This can be attested by the entry of development and progress in the area.

With this achievement, Isabela is now on its normalcy compared to the previous security situations.

The emphasis on EO 70 or the Whole of Nation approach is on the right track of its implementations through the common goal of Ending the Local Armed Conflict (ELCAC) and the stakeholders' engagements.

LTC Dulatre is a native of Rizal, Kalinga and presently the Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, G7 of the 5th Infantry Division, PA based at Camp Melchor F Dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela.

Consequently, the award by the Battalion also made him the Best Battalion Commander 2018 for NOLCOM.

Cabbage and cucumber could help fight COVID-19, study finds

Cabbage & Cucumber in the fight against Covid-19
Cordillera - The Cordillera region could be the source of these beneficial vegetable that could aid in the fight against coronavirus.
A new study from  France have suggested that consuming cabbage and cucumber is beneficial against the coronavirus by reducing the levels of a compound that cause the virus to infect the body, according to report by the South China Morning Post and the New York Post.

The study have found out that cabbage, whether raw, pickled in sauerkraut or mixed into coleslaw and Korea's top delicacy kimchi could help people increase their body resistance to the virus.

The researchers from Europe said in a report that the antioxidant which is abundant in the said vegetables could play a factor why countries like Germany and South Korea had a lower fatality rates compared to hard-hit countries like America.

However the researchers pointed out that the results of the study could have been affected by uncertainties in some countries, but it was the "first attempt to link death rates with food consumption.

"Nutrition should not be overlooked" as a factor behind Covid-19 deaths, said Jen Bousquet, former chairman of the WHO Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Diseases.
"Little attention has been given to the spread and severity of the virus, and regional differences in diet, but diet changes may be a great benefit. Nutrition may play a role in the immune defense against Covid-19 and may explain some of the differences seen in Covid-19 across Europe. I have now changed my diet, and it includes raw cabbage three times a week, sauerkraut once a week, and picked vegetables," he said.

"Understanding these differences, and protective factors, like diet, but many others too, is of paramount importance, and may eventually help to control these epidemics," Bosquet added.

These are the words by Canadian vlogger Kulas that he shared on social media when he visited Bedbed, Mankayan, Benguet and had a little time jamming with the Igorots by playing the gongs.

Igorots are one of the most civilized people
He also met with a local blacksmith Marlon who showed him his workshop for fabricating hand made gongs.

Gongs had been the town's One Town, One Product and the municipality had manufactured the biggest gong in the Philippines which measures about 7 feet (2.133 meters) in  diameter and weighs 175 kilograms.

The construction of the gong signifies the town as the source of the best gong in the Philippines.

Locals of Barangay, Bedbed fabricated gong made up of brass and bronze.

Last year the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) put up a Gong Fabrication Facility and Equipment in the said barangay to make it easier for the locals to make gongs.

Demand for gongs over the past years had been increasing mainly from token collectors with one gong priced at P8,000 to P27,000.

Watch this video from 'Kulas' who went to Bedbed and documented what he learnt from one of the local manufacturer of gongs.
