Young Baguio boys create chips made from 'talbos ng sayote'

Cordillera - An adult in the kitchen is nothing new. Men in the kitchen can be quite surprising. But what about boys?

Situated in the City of Pines, a group of boys started their own business called Homeboyz. Their experience in business is undoubtedly lacking but they don't plan to stop.

"What's cook'n?" you might ask. Well, these boys learned to miraculously formulate chips made from sayote tops grown from Baguio.  For now, they're working in their friend's kitchen with just the mother's kitchen tools.

We may all agree that sayote is the most evident vegetable in Baguio. You could see its vines crawling up the electric wires or flooding an entire lot. You may ask why, that's because Sayote vegetable is easy to cultivate. Just leave the vegetable anywhere and watch it grow from itself.

Because of this, the Homeboyz came up with an idea to help consume more of these vegetables in a faster rate thus possibly clearing out the overgrowing vegetable in Baguio.

What might be the reason behind this? This group of boys is just as ordinary as you are. The pandemic affected them and their families negatively. With this product, they're now aiming to help themselves and their families and might even extend to others who need a helping hand.

You can reach them on their own Facebook page Homeboyz.

Youths in Kabayan, Benguet save .5 Million pesos from "Ipon Challenge"

Photo Courtesy || PIO Kabayan

Cordillera- More than half a million pesos (P523,345.85) was collected from the  Ipon challenge  participated by more than twenty three local youths in Kabayan, Benguet.

Have you ever challenged yourself to save something everyday? While others challenge themselves to save any amount, could it be even challenging to save a specific amount or set a target amount within a day, month or year?

Either you have a steady stream of income, or a student receiving allowance from your parents, you can always save if you choose to, but to challenge yourself to save is a different story.

Just like Maureen Medon who was able to save P54, 344 from the working youth category and Brian Labenio who was able to save P53,500 from the school category.

This Ipon challenge was launched by the local government through the leadership of  Shellanie Luciap, President of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation which lasted from February 10, 2021 to December 10, 2021.

The challenge was participated by 23 participants with two categories. There were 7 participants from the working youth category and 16 participants from the school your category.

Those who were able to save the most from both categories were recognized and awarded P7,500 each. Second placers received P5,500 and third placers received P4,000, while three participants from both categories received P1,000 as consolation prizes.

This Ipon challenge is indeed an exceptional program conducted by the local government to introduce financial literacy and teach financial discipline and habit to the youth.

This program was certainly successful as some of the participants testified and shared what they've learned about self-discipline not opening their piggy bank, determination in saving, motivation  and inspiration to win the Ipon challenge.

Philippines to acquire its first BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile from India

Photo Courtesy || Mike1979 Russia/Wikimedia/CC BY-SA 3.0

Philippines - The Philippine government is finalizing a deal with the Indian government for the acquisition of BrahMos shore-based anti-ship cruise missile system.

The deals comes after the country's budget department released initial funds worth nearly P5 billion for the acquisition of anti-ship missile system and other military equipment.

The Philippine military will be the first foreign nation to buy India's BrahMos to bolster its defense capability.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile features network-centric architecture, multiple trajectories, and way-point capability that allow the weapon to engage land and naval targets beyond the horizon, according to the defensepost website.

It is equipped with a solid-propellant booster that provides the system with initial acceleration and a liquid-fueled ramjet system that enables a speed of Mach 3.

Additionally, the weapon system’s air-breathing ramjet propulsion technology provides the BrahMos with a longer range than missiles powered by rocket propulsion.

The ship and land-based BrahMos missiles carry a semi-armor-piercing warhead weighing 200 kilograms (440 pounds), while the aerial variant can carry a 300-kilogram (661-pound) warhead. They can intercept surface targets at a minimum altitude of 10 meters (32 feet).

The weapon can launch from ships, mobile launchers, submarines, and even military aircraft. It can also be used for coastal defense and ground attack.
