Cordillera - The Hon. Karen May Bacdayan is a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York, Bronx County Housing Court. She was appointed to the bench in 2018.
Judge Bacdayan received her B.S. from Bard College in 1986. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of Kentucky Law School in 1990.
After graduating from law school, Bacdayan joined the Legal Services Staff Association, where she served as a senior staff attorney until her appointment to the bench.

During her twenty-eight year tenure there, Bacdayan represented indigent tenants in Housing Court, providing legal assistance for low-income individuals who faced potential housing and disability discrimination.
Bacdayan also served as co-chairman of the newly formed Brooklyn Tenant Lawyers Network, which was established to address the issue surrounding the imbalance of legal representation for tenants compared to that of landlords in New York.

Judge Bacdayan was born in the Philippines and descends from the Igorot Tribe.
Her family formerly resided in the village of Bangaan in the Municipality of Sagada, Mountain Province, Philippines before moving to the United States.
