Baguio residents praised for their obedience and being respectful to laws and regulations during ECQ

Cordillera - "Our people had been obedient and respectful of the laws and the advisories we had issued since the ECQ declaration,"
That was the message of the Baguio City mayor Benjamin Magalong as  many people from other areas are now looking up to the city as a role model in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

He also pointed out that the discipline of the people is one of the key to the city's success in keeping Covid-19 cases down to a minimum.

Recently, the city government of Baguio has been commended by National Task Force Covid-19 spokesperson Retired General Restituto Padilla for keeping zero cases for more than 10 days.

Padilla pointed three important steps that the city has implemented; transparency and communication, mass testing and effective contact tracing.

The city mayor however, noted that some people had ignored the laws and regulations just what had happened yesterday at the Baguio City market.

"There were days when lapses had been observed as that transpired yesterday at the Baguio City Market where physical distancing was ignored," Magalong said via Public Information Office - Baguio.
"We appeal therefore to our constituents to always be mindful of the distancing requirement and other health and safety protocols at all time and at all cost because our safety and yes, our lives now depend on it," he added.

As of 14 April 2020, the city of Baguio has recorded 15 Covid-19 cases, 12 of which have already recovered.

Baguio cop donates his one month salary to stranded students in the city of Baguio

Cordillera - Knowing the needs of his kailyans, mostly students who are stranded in Baguio during the community quarantine, a  Baguio cop decided to donate his one month salary for them to have cash to buy for essential needs.

Hagabi Bilibli, a native of Kiangan, Ifugao and a member of the Special Action Force (SWAT) teamed up with his fellow iKiangans to pitch in for relief goods to the stranded student.

They were able to distribute food packs and one thousand pesos (P1,000) each to the students.

Such generosity exists among Cordillerans. They possess the willingness and motivation to sacrifice some of their money to help those who needed the most.

They are not rich like the country's tycoons but they have big hearts to help in any way they can to help their fellow human beings.

We are very grateful to sir Bilibli, Eng. Oliver Wansi Isnaw OJ (his brothers and sisters), to Ma'am Michele Talosig Lamsen Mitchiko, manang Salva Bilibli from UK, sir Hagiyo Atade and Golly Dulnuan for you contributions and donations to our kailyans.

Our Kailyans will always remember your generosity and efforts that despite the hardship caused by this global pandemic, you have found time to extend your assistance.

May the Lord bless and protect you all the time.

Good Samaritan in Sabangan offered his house to stranded tourists during community quarantine

Cordillera - A week before the lockdown, a group of tourist from Manila traveled to Mountain Province with the aim to visit the well-know Sagada scenic spots. Unfortunately, on March 18, while they are on their way home to Manila, their car broke down at Tiging, Losad, Sabangan.
Luckily, with our good samaritan, Mr. Sherwin Dyke (Botsoy) Likigan, who happens to have an automotive shop near the area, invited them to stay/camp in his place while their car is being fixed. However, with the Enhance Community Quarantine, the purchase and delivery of new auto parts are very difficult considering also the damage incurred by their vehicle so the tourists decided to stay.

The tourists are Princes Mae Tapec of Zambales, Sarah Jane Tan of Mandaluyong, Noel Lozado of Las Pinas, and Katherine Narvato of Las Pinas.

Upon hearing the situation of the tourist, the Local Government Unit of Sabangan through the Municipal Social Welfare Development Officer Brigda Mangay-at, Social Welfare Assistant Lilian Moga, Municipal Treasurer Carolyn Astudillo with the assistance of the PNP personnel quickly delivered some relief to the tourists on April 7, 2020 to augment their remaining food supplies for them to last the lockdown. Earlier today, the LGU again sent some vegetables and face masks to the tourists.

Moreover, considering the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the parents of the tourist advised them to stay put until the lifting of the ECQ considering the rising cases in their areas.
During this situation, the tourist have already decided to sacrifice their time to stay rather than immerse themselves in the affected areas. The actions they have shown clearly showed us what to prioritize in this time of pandemic - to safeguard your life and the lives of your family. Staying in Sabangan for a month or two is nothing compared to endangering the lives of you family with a virus that you might caught along the way.

With the enhanced community quarantine, it is also being continuously advised to the constituents of Sabangan that staying home is one way of helping the country fight the spread of the virus. So Stay Home! Stay Safe! Save Lives!

"Let's always keep our faith in the Lord burning. He answers all prayers. We stay safe and healthy". says Law Aben Timpac who was discharge from the hospital after recovering from the virus.
The coronavirus is an infection in the lungs that includes some cases of what people would call the common cold. When it worsens, it can causes havoc with the immune system that can lead to long-term lung damage or death.

There are no specific treatments or cure for covid-19 as yet, though some scientists are working to create a vaccine for it.

For these reasons, Law has a message to everyone.

"May I set as a proof that this COVID-19 is not a joke. May we have the discipline. It would also be critical to unite with our government in order to cease this pandemic," Timpac wrote in a FB post.

He also thank his supportive family including the Baguio General Hospital frontliners who took good care of him during his quarantine.
"I'd like to thank my ever supportive family and friends and a lot of people including the frontliners of Baguio General Hospital who fought with me throughout my struggle with the COVID-19. It was rough but with your message and prayers, we won the battle," he said.

On Thursday, The Benguet General Hospital decided to have a heartwarming send-off ceremony for Timpac, who were met with with applause from the frontliners and hospital staff.

"Thank you Baguio General Hospital staff for making my send-off a super duper special one. I can't express how delighted I was with your effort. Thank you," Timpac said.

Photo Courtesy || Bhabeth Requino
Cordillera - Hearing stories of police officers performing simple yet selfless acts of kindness across the country truly warms our hearts and restored our faith to humanity.
We have heard many stories from our Philippine National Police (PNP) officers who are extending their duty to help citizens who need assistance in their area of responsibility, such as helping farmers harvest their produce, helping pregnant woman give birth and treating the homeless with a nice meal in a restaurant.

Like this group of police officers stationed in Besao, Mt. Province, who not only travel to bring relief goods to the less fortunate members of the community, but also offered to do haircut, washed and changed the clothes of two brothers who seem to be in a very difficult situation.

Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto thanks Benguet farmers for vegetables supply

Photo Courtesy || Vico Sotto
Cordillera - Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has thanked Benguet farmers for supplying fresh vegetables to the city amid Covid-19 crisis.
On his official Facebook page, Sotto said the lack of vegetables in the market will benefit the Benguet farmers since Pasig city will be sourcing out vegetables from them which will be distributed to the frontliners.

"Vegetables supply is lacking in the market today. That's why Cong Ronnie Ong of the Hillbilly Partylist is a big help... and it's also a big help to our fellow farmers from  BENGUET," Sotto said.

"Thank you very much," he added.

The young mayor said the veggies that were bought from Benguet farmers will be cooked and served by the city's community kitchen and will be delivered to the frontliners.

Sotto originally planned and launched the community kitchen in March as a way to provide the frontliners' supply of meals due to the absence of mass transportation and the effect of the temporary shutting down of business establishments.

Meanwhile, the municipal government of Bocaue, Bulacan also bought around 13,000 kilos of assorted vegetables from the farmers of Bauko, Mt. Province.
Said vegetables will be part of the relief packs which will be distributed to around 16,000 senior citizens in the said city.

Cordillera farmers have been suffering from the low demand of their produce since last year and worsen by this covid-19 pandemic.

This results to some tons of vegetables end up wasted.
