UB grad Jenny N. Diwayan from Besao is Top 10 in January 2020 Architect Licensure Examinations

Cordillera - A graduate of a Baguio-based university is among the 10 topnotchers of the January 2020 Architect Licensure Examinations, according to the latest results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Jenny Ngala Diwayan from the University of Baguio landed on Top 10 after earning a score of 81.70 percent.

Diwayan is a daughter of Gertrude Diwayan from Besao, Mt. Province according to a source.

Another graduate from Baguio, Rhicel Gonzales Sapasap from Saint Louis University topped the list with a score of 82 percent.
The PRC announced that 1, 242 out of 2,229 passed the Architect Licensure Examination (ALE) given by the Board of Architecture in the different testing locations in the Philippines including Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Legaspi last January 24 and 29, 2020.

Megan Joyce Herrera Cruz from UP-Diliman and Denzel Lance Leon Dantis from Mapua University-Manila shared the second spot with a rating of 83.20 percent.

Philippines' House of Representative honored BRAVE CF Champion Stephen Loman

Cordillera - The House of Representative of the Philippines has invited reigning Brave CF Bantamweight Champion Stephen "The Sniper" Loman to receive various honors for his incredible performance in Brave CF arena.

Benguet appointed caretaker ACT-CIS Cong. Eric Go Yap meanwhile, praised Loman and the rest of Team Lakay members for their contribution in raising the country's flag in international sport competitions.  

Loman has been the reigning Brave CF Bantamweight Champion since 2017 after filling the vacant position when he defeated Gary Mangat via Technical Knockout. 

He has defended his title from various challengers with his recent  title defense against Louie Sanoudakis in the main event of Brave CF 30 last November 2019. 

Loman hails from Ifugao and has been training under the stable of Benguet-based gym Team Lakay with the guidance of multi-awarded coach Mark Sangiao. 

Loman is a passionate and dedicated fighter who will do all his best to win in every bout. 

He is an ultimate well-rounded fighter with powerful kicks and incredible punches. He has a lot of variety of weapons that he uses in his arsenal.

Brave Combat Federation President Mohammad Shahid was impressed with Stephen style of fighting and believed he will be a superstar in the sport.

"This is just the beginning for Stephen Loman. I really believed that he will take the sport of MMA to another level in the Philippines. He proved he is a deserving champion." Shahid said in a statement after Loman defended his title against Bouddegzdame last March 2019.

Loman has an official MMA fight record of 13 wins, 2 losses and no draw.

Miners from Mankayan, Benguet deliver aid to Taal eruption victims

 Cordillera - Expressing compassion and solidarity for the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption, pocket miners from Mankayan, Benguet have extended assistance through delivering vegetables and other goods. 

In a post from Facebook user Ohlpie Daniel, trucks full of goods coming from the Association of Pocket Miners of Mankayan are being delivered to the victims of Taal volcano eruptions.

Miners from the municipality are inherently kind and generous to other people who are in need of help during difficult times. 

Although they earn little revenue from small-scale mines due to the temporary ban by government agencies, pocket miners were able to organize and provide assistance they can give to those in need.

Batangas was declared under state of calamity on January 13, a day after the Taal Volcano erupted. 

Many residents were displaced due to the eruptions and they are needing assistance such as food, clothing, medicines and many more.

Igorot MMA figther Lito Adiwang is unstoppable, defeats Thai foe via Kimura lock in 1st round


Cordillera - Cordilleran MMA prospect Lito Adiwang proved once again that he deserved to be included in ONE Championship - the largest global sports media property in Asia after defeating his Thai opponent early in the first round. 


Adiwang didn't waste his time in the round, unleashing thunderous strikes to the head and body of Mitsatit of Thailand.

It didn't take long for Adiwang to submit his Thai opponent via kimura lock in 3:02 mark in the first round. 

His submission victory has earned him another point to up his impressive winning streak to seven with six wins came via submission and knockout.

Young and new to ONE Championship, Adiwang believed in the importance of training the mind and believing in your capability. 

"Ever since I matured in mixed martial arts, the key was really my mindset," Adiwang said. 

"No matter how strong you are , or how good you are, I'll put my mind that I can beat you anyway." he added.

The Baguio-based fighter training out of Team Lakay stable join Rich Franklin's ONE Warrior Series, and since then proved that he is going straight to becoming a world champion someday.

His recent victory over Mitsatit had put him in a conversation for the strawweigth world championship bout that could happen any time soon.

Joshua Pacio retains crown, now a 4-TIME ONE Strawweight World Champion

Cordillera - Cordilleran MMA star Joshua Pacio still remains the ONE Strawweight World Champion after defeating Alex Silva in the main of event of ONE: FIRE & FURY held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. 

Pacio earned the split decision of the judges by outscoring Silva in the standup game where he peppered his opponent with accurate combinations. 

Silva on the other hand was upset as he can't pursue his plan to bring Pacio to ground where he wanted to submit Pacio. 

Pacio's wonderful submission defense last night helped him get back to stand up position where he held his advantage over Silva.

Meanwhile 2-time ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard "Landslide" Folayang missed to complete Team Lakay's attempt of a full win tonight as he loss to Netherlands's Pieter "The Archangle" Buist via split decision. 

Former ONE World Title challenger Danny "The King" Kingad of  Team Lakay claimed victory over Chinese foe "The Hunter" Xie Wei via unanimous decision.

Young and new comer to ONE Championship, Lito "The Thunder Kid" Adiwang proved to be too powerful for Mitsatit Pongsiri of Thailand.

Adiwang forced Pongsiri to surrender the game by overwhelming him with voluminous power punches to the head. 

Pongsiri suffered weakness under Thunder Kid's power that caused him being pulled to the ground where Adiwang caught him with a swift Kimura. 

In another fight, Team Lakay's Gina Iniong was victorious in her return to professional mixed martial arts competition by outscoring Asha "Knockout Queen" Roka of India. 

MMA representatives from Cordillera made an impressive fight tonight with a score of 4-1.

5 Universities in Cordillera among Top Universities in the Philippines


Cordillera - The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities has released its January 2020 edition of the top 100 universities in the world. 

Five universities in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) made it to the top 100 based on web presence, impact, openness and excellence. 

Saint Louis University (SLU) was ranked number 17, followed by Benguet State University (BSU) in rank number 24. 

The University of the Philippines - Baguio branch was ranked number 40; University of the Cordilleras (UC) in rank 59; University of Baguio (UB): 70; and Ifugao State University (IFSU): 92. 

Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines-Diliman remained to be the top 1 among Philippine schools. 

Webometrics Ranking of the World Universities is the largest public research organization in Spain that belongs to Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Clientificas (SCIC) research group. 

Its goal is to measure the capability of any universities and colleges towards an E-university. They publish announcement of top schools in the world in January and July each year. 

The Commission on Higher Education has recorded a total of 2,393 higher education institutions including universities and colleges satellites based in the 2018-2019 statistics.

Cordillera - Basketball fans in Baguio City grieved the death of iconic Lakers legend Kobe Bryant including a local artist who created a painting of Kobe on a canvas as a way to pay tribute to the legend.

Reynaldo Campos Dayadante Jr. posted on his Facebook account a timelapse of his work, in which he painted Kobe and his daughter.

Dayadante used his painting skills to commemorate the late Bryant and his daughter Gianna Mari who died with seven others after their helicopter crashed last Sunday in Los Angeles.

OFW's daughter from La Trinidad, Benguet tops Architect Licensure Examination

Cordillera - The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced on Wednesday the top 10 graduates who topped the recently concluded Architect Licensure Examination held on January 24 and 26, 2020.

Rhicel Gonzales Sapasap of Saint Louis University topped the exam with a rating of 84 percent. 

Sapasap from La Trinidad, Benguet said that studying well, trusting in the Creator, inspiration from her family were the reasons she was able to get the highest score in the examination. 

Another Cordilleran Jenny Ngala Diwayan, a graduate from the University of Baguio landed in the 10th spot with a rating of 81.70 percent.

The PRC announced that 1,242 out of 2,229 passed the Architect Licensure Examination (ALE) given by the Board of Architecture in the different testing locations in the Philippines including Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Legazpi and Zamboanga. 

Megan Joyce Herrera Cruz from UP-Diliman and Denzel Lance Leon Dantis from Mapua University-Manila shared the second spot with a rating of 83.20 percent. 

Adamson graduate Karsten Arco Asuque landed on the third spot with a rating of 83 percent while Austin Carl Sugui Equipaje of Santo Tomas got the 4th spot with a rating of 82.90 percent.

Baguio City Hall lights purple and gold in honor of Kobe Bryant

Cordillera - The Baguio City Hall turned purple and gold to honor the passing of the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant. 

Purple is the color of the Los Angeles Lakers to which Kobe played his entire 20-year career in basketball. 
41-year old Bryant died in a helicopter crash on Monday (Manila time) in California, U.S.A.

Meanwhile, The Palace is saddened by the death of Bryant and expressed condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, loved ones and fans around the globe.

"The Palace extends it's deepest condolences to the family... We share in their grief," Palace spokesman Panelo said in a statement.

Bryant, who won five NBA championships and two Olympic gold medals was a frequent visitor in the Philippines and was well-loved by his Filipino fans. 

It can be recalled that Bryant first flew to Manila in 1998, just two years after he debuted in the NBA when he was 18-year old. 
He last visit was in 2016 years just after his retirement.

On Monday, Filipino fans troop to Araneta Coliseum to join the entire basketball world in mourning the death of the NBA legend.

Cordillera remains free of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus - DOH-CAR

Cordillera - The Department of Health-Center for Health Development-Cordillera has confirmed that the region is still free from the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), according to the Philippine Information Agency Cordillera. 

The 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is a virus more specially, a coronavirus identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China. 

China reportedly had some link to a large seafood and animal market, suggesting animal-to-person spread however, a growing number of patients reportedly have not contacted the disease from animal contact, indicating person-to-person spread is occurring, according the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. 

The DOH-Cordillera is reminding the public to practise cleanliness among individuals and their surroundings to prevent the entry of the 2019-nCoV in the Cordillera. 

It also encourages all health workers to be vigilant and take extra precautionary measures when in contact with patients with acute respiratory infection, especially those with travel history to Wuhan China.

Meanwhile, the DOH yesterday has confirmed that there are no cases of 2019-nCoV in the Philippines.

Here are some additional tips to prevent the spread of 2019-nCoV. 

Everyone should practice good hygiene and necessary measures to protect against any kind of viral infections.

1.Washing your hands.
2. Covering your mouth while coughing or sneezing.
3. Avoiding contact with wild or farm animals. 
4. Boosting your immune system to fight infections.
5. Avoiding contact with sick people.
6. Avoid traveling to places where 2019-nCoV are declared hot zones.
