Baguio accepting proposals for cable car transport in the city

Cordillera - The city government of Baguio city has announced it's now accepting proposals for its three big projects which includes, electric plant, bulk water and cable car transport.

In a post from its official Facebook page, it said " The city government is accepting proposals for three more big projects: Asin Hydro Electric Plant, Cable Car System as Public Transport, Bulk Water".

Proposals can be submitted starting from August 22, 2022 to September 22, 2022.

The cable car transport project is among the city's priority project for public transport and facility system. 

Among the planned mass transport and facility system includes an intermodal transport terminal that allows interface between the different transport modes in the city. 

Also a multi-level parking designed in such a way that it can accommodate more cars to be parked under one roof. This could make the city streets free from illegally parked cars. 

Aside from the cable car, the city also listed a plan of building an elevated monorail around the central business district area and a series of feeder lines to be composed of battery-powered buses in an aim to make Baguio City the first urban center to pilot the green ecosystem and electric-powered monorail system.

According to Leticia O. Clemente, the City Budget Officer, the project will be funded through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) or thru local revenue collection, foreign and local grants, capital income from sale or use of assets, and borrowing or bond flotation.

Baguio LGU puts up team of experts to evaluate LCUTS (ex. monorail) project for the city


Cordillera - Baguio residents and tourists are looking forward for a new and modern mode of transportation in the city as Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed an executive order that creates a technical working group (TWG) that will look in to the possibility of putting up a low carbon urban transport system (LCUTS).

The group led by the city's engineering and transport management officers, related government agencies, academe, and the private sector is tasked to come up with a mode of transportation with better mobility and helps improve air quality of the city. 

The TWG will work with the United Nation and the Department of Transportation for the implementation of the LCUTS.

The LCUTS in the Philippines Project aims to help promote and create an enabling environment for the commercialization of low carbon urban transport systems, like electric and hybrid vehicles.

The project focus on low carbon transport solutions such as electric vehicles, development of bikeways, cable cars, and projects and policies promoting clean transport options.

Other examples of electric transportation is the monorail system which is powered by electric motors. 

In the past years, Metro Global Holdings Corp., a multinational holdings company has proposed to build P11.5 billion fully electric public transport system in Baguio city.

The project is composed of a 4-kilometer elevated monorail around the central business district area and a series of feeder lines to be composed of battery-powered buses in an aim to make Baguio City the first urban center to pilot the green ecosystem and electric-powered monorail system.

Metro Global plans to build P11.5B elevated monorail in Baguio CBD


Cordillera - Metro Global Holdings Corp., a multinational holdings company is proposing to build P11.5 billion fully electric public transport system in Baguio city.

The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the local government of Baguio City to do the feasibility studies for the building of an "intelligent public transport system" that could provide solutions to the worsening traffic situation in the Central Business District. 

According to Baguio PIO, the project is composed of a 4-kilometer elevated monorail around the central business district area and a series of feeder lines to be composed of battery-powered buses in an aim to make Baguio City the first urban center to pilot the green ecosystem and electric-powered monorail system.

The prosed monorail project will consist eight strategic stations around the central business district which will be powered by electricity and some 300 battery-powered buses that will service the transportation requirements of the residents from their residences to the monorail stations and to their places of work.

The company will shoulder the cost of the project through the public-private partnership over a 50-year period of the franchise, according to Robert John Sobrepen֮a, chairman of the Metro Global Holdings Corporation

San Miguel Corp. President Ramon Ang offered to build elevated highway around Baguio City

Cordillera - San Miguel Corporation (SMC) had a proposal to solve the worsening traffic situation on Baguio's main roads.

Mayor Benjie Magalong on Thursday said the SMC president Ramon Ang has expressed his interest to build an elevated highway around the city.

In addition, Ang also said that he is interested to operate and manage the Loakan Airport. 

"RSA expressed interest to operate and manage the Loakan Airport and offered to build an elevated highway "traffic reliever" around the city", Magalong wrote in his official FB page.

The country's biggest food, drinks and infrastructure conglomerate will use its technical experts to prepare the design and will submit it to Mayor Magalong in due time. 

The local government of Baguio is open to any recommendation and doable solutions on how to effectively and efficiently address the traffic problems of the city so that residents and tourists will not suffer from the effect of monstrous traffic jams around the city. 

Transportation secretary Arthur Tugade earlier this month had also offered a proposal to build a cable car system from Pugo, La Union to Baguio. 

Here is a sample of an elevated expressway, the NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10.

The Department of Transportation also offered to help the local government to set up a monorail line from La Trinidad to the city.

Many believed that Baguio will soon be dead if nothing is done to address these problems.

First Cable Car System in the country to be built in La-Union, Baguio and Benguet


Cordillera - In an effort to ease the worsening traffic situation in the city of Pines, the Department of Transportation proposed to the city of government of Baguio a cable car system that would run from Pugo, La Union to Baguio. 

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said that DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade offered the city to enter into a memorandum of agreement to pursue the proposed cable car system during an Executive-Legislative meeting on Sept. 23.

The cable car system would the be the first in the country and would greatly ease the traffic congestion in the city of Baguio.

A conceptual design for the proposed project will be first provided to the city for review prior to going into a final agreement, according to Baguio City official website.

This week, the city council has approved a resolution that authorize city mayor Benjamin B. Magalong to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the DOTr for the conduct of study on the development of a cable car system.

The said cable car will interconnect ajoining municipalities such as La Union Tublay, Sablan, Itogon and La Trinidad.

In addition to the cable car system, DOTr also offered the city of Baguio the construction its first monorail system which will operate from La Trinidad, Benguet to Baguio.

The monorail project with an estimated cost of over P5 Billion pesos would run from the provincial capital to SM City Baguio passing through the central business district.
