Cordilleran MMA fighter Eduard Folayang remains one of the best in the world

Photo Courtesy || ONE

Cordillera - ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong has said in a statement that Baguio's sensation Eduard "The Landslide" Folayang is very fresh, strong, very athletic and intelligent as a response to critics who said the Cordilleran fighter needs to step away from boxing for good.

The 35-year-old, former two-time lightweight king has struggled to get back to the winning side after recording three losses from his last fights.

But ONE boss believes that the Cordilleran warrior still has the power and the will to come back, and he didn't believe a fight with Caruso will be his last.

"The truth is he's still very fresh and very strong and very athletic and very intelligent. I don't believe this is Eduard's last fight, Sityodtong said.

"I think Eduard is still there, skill wise, mentally and physically. He is still up there. He might not be in the official rankings but he is still up there," ONE boss added.

Folayang is set to share the ring with Australian fighter Caruso in ONE: Into The Matrix on October 30 in Singapore.

The live fight will be broadcast live from the Singapore Stadium.

In the main event, reigning ONE middleweight and ONE light heavyweight world champion Aung La "The Burmes Python" N Sang of Myanmar will defend his middleweight title against top contender Reinier "The Dutch Knight" de Ridder of The Netherlands.

The 22-year-old Mateo, who bested 45 other candidates, will represent the Philippines in the yet to be announced Miss Universe pageant.

During the event ceremony, host KC Montero asked Mateo should she be given a chance to create a paper currency with the image of any living or dead Filipino, who would it be?

Mateo responded by saying she would pick her fellow Ilongga, the late Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

"For those who don't know, she was an Ilongga, but what I admired about her is that she used her knowledge, her voice, to serve the country," Mateo said.

"And I want to be somebody like here. Somebody who puts her heart, her passion into action. And after all, she is the best president that we never had," she added.

In a photo shoot, Mateo was seen wearing a Kalinga woven Head Cover design called the "Lilagtob" in Lubuagan dialect or "Gittut' in Naneng.

Congratulations Miss Rabiya Mateo and Good Luck for the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.

106 year old man from Ifugao could be the country's oldest COVID-19 survivor

Photo Courtesy || Jayvee O. Moltio via BGMC Facebook

Cordillera - Beating the odds, a 106-year-old patient who is a native of Aguinaldo, Ifugao and now a resident of Irisan, Baguio City, was recorded as the oldest COVID-19 survivor in the city and probably in the country after having a negative swab result today. He was admitted in the hospital for 13 days.

The daughter of the patient expressed her gratitude especially to the health care workers who took care of her father. “God made you as an instrument. I hope that my father would be an inspiration to all COVID-19 patients,” she added.

Present during the send-off were Dr. Ricardo B. Runez Jr., Medical Center Chief, Dr. Ray P. Suanding, Chief Medical Professional Staff, Dr. Thea Pamela T. Cajulao, Adult Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Ray P. Aswat, attending Cardiologist, Dr. Larry C. Haya Jr., Emergency Department Head, and Joselito M. Datud, Chief Nurse.

During the ceremony, Dr. Runez stated that, "the discharge of the patient is a testament to our adaptation to the pandemic and striving towards resilience in our everyday life. A tribute is given to our doctors and nurses and the rest of the health care team for their dedication to work as translated to the challenges that were battled and surpassed.”

On the other hand, Dr. Cajulao reiterated that COVID-19 should not be taken lightly because most cases are mild but the number of severe and critical cases is increasing especially among the vulnerable population including the elderly and those with co-morbidities. “Our patient is a living proof that COVID-19 can be beaten. Remember that prevention is better than cure, but in instances that we cannot prevent it, early detection, treatment and isolation can help decrease the risk for mortality” she added.

As of writing, the hospital has admitted a total of 338 COVID-19 cases, 259 of them have already recovered while 63 are still active cases. There were 16 deaths, three of whom were dead on arrival.

A dance number was performed by the Infectious Disease Nurses headed by their Nurse Supervisor Czarina T. Mendoza. The centenarian now serves as an epitome of a COVID fighter in the City of Baguio and the Cordillera Region. Despite all the difficulties during his admission, he was able to prove that age is just a number.
