DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar on Monday, December 23, 2019 conducted an inspection of the said segment and directed the opening to travelers the next day.
"Considering that Baguio is a go-to holiday destination, we opened the segment to provide ease to our tourists who want to experience the beauty of the City of Pines. While significantly cutting their travel time, we also want to ensure that the expressway is in its utmost quality for their safety," Villar said.
According to Villar, the opening of the Sison-Rosario segment would cut the travel time to Baguio by up to 30 minutes as well as ease the traffic bottleneck along Manila North Road towards Kennon Road.
He added that the newly opened segment of the expressway will be free of charge to the motorists.
"Wala munang bayad and Sison to Rosario Segment ng TPLEX. Munting regalo natin ito sa ating mga kababayan na uuwi sa kani-kanilang mga pamilya," Villar added.
