Update: The Technical Working Group (TWG) assigned for the development of the Baguio public market has said that the proposed modernized market will be a 5-storey building with 2 parking spaces in the basement.
The TWD has estimated that the project would cost 6 billion pesos and the development will be undertaken in four phases in a 3-year period.
Funding for the project would come either through a bank loan, a joint venture, turnkey or a partnership with local cooperatives, the website added.
Cordillera - Baguio city residents and market vendors will have a reason to be proud off if the city government will pursue a massive development plan of the public market to become one of the most modernized markets in Southeast Asia.
According to the official website of Baguio City, a total of P6 Billion is now needed to fund the said development plan.
The development plan includes modernizing the Magsaysay complex by building a 5 storey main market building with a basement parking area that can accommodate 635 slots.

Even the crowded Hilltop and Kayang offices will also be improved. There will be road links that connect the opposite sides of the market and elevated pathways so that people can walk comfortably.

A conceptual development plan has already been created and will be used by the members of the technical working group (TWG) as a basis for a feasibility study but will first undertake further consultations, public hearings with concerned stakeholders and scoping sessions.
Magalong praised the group of young architects who came up with the beautiful design that will now serve as the basis for feasibility study for the project.

Let's pray that this project will push through. Kudos to the architects who came up with the beautiful design.
Kudos to the present administration of Mayor B. Magalong for this long-awaited project. He is truly a warrior not only as ret. Police General but warrior of his vision to develop the city at its best. Baguio City is the summer capital of our country so it is only right to make the city be in his rightful place.
So nice plan.... Goodluck Baguio...
Beautiful and modern but all i saw was massive buildings. Maybe the concept of green city can be incorporated to make it more environment friendly since we are obviously overly populated and we emit more carbon dioxide than our remaining trees can handle. Baguio was once the cleanest and greenest city i really hope we can get back that tittle someday. Let us all help save our environment as we progress forward.
I hope they also study the impact on traffic, and the accessibility for the pedestrians and commuters. The road in and around the area should be improved first.
may aircon po ba yang bagong market?
Nice plans, gusto namin yan improvements at the public market
I wish to see Baguio as a leading city of cleanliness, crime free , drug free, no smoke belching vehicles to render smog free city. A place for all vendors, and NOT to ply their wares along session road or the streets ,hampering pedestrians making a blight to the beauty of Baguio city and all over cordillera.
For a modern market place , show casing Baguio as the best in Southeast Asia is a exciting , chest puffing while putting on the map our country for others to come and visit and imbibe the true pilipino in general and cordillera culture in particular . I doing so they’ll come and see all our corridors, passages, stairways alll jammed with our poor and needy cordillerans, begging for alms, poor children in rugged even tattered clothes , older men and women tagging your shirts asking for help. The city should do something for them .
How about making the roofs 50% solar and 50% roof gardens?
True. Make roof gardens.
amen.in the Name of Jesus,we claim and declare a new and improved city, and most of all our Christianity.
this is a great plan, let us pray for Gods guidance, knowledge, wisdom and protection to be upon our President,to all goverment officials specially those men in uniform to work in unity for the goodness kf our country
yes, hope they will bring back the cleanest and greenest city, like before!
yes,not only summer capital, but most of all..a christian people Capital
amen,let pray for it
Sana huwag nila sirain yong maharlika building kasi maganda foundation niyan, if i am not mistKen concrete were used within the bedrock kaya it can withstand even strong earthquake, souvenir building yan noon sana iaayos nila kasi sobrang gulo na sa loob..
I'm looking at the plan! Wow! It's massive but where are they planning to insert or build these buildings??? The road spaces and buildings are wide but the current space along Maharlika, Abanao and the surrounding areas are not that big as shown in the plan. How do they propose to build those buildings and roads?
Nice plan but sana more for the environment and sana this will also benefit the vendors para lahat happy. And also please do something to improve the traffic.
nice plan. I wonder if there's easy access to public transport like taxi and jeepney? And if they can also limit rentals of stalls per person to give chance to other interested entrepreneurs to open their shops.
Architecture doesn't always have to be massive and/or to standout. Sometimes architecture must co-exist with the site location. And they must think over if it's neccessary to modernize or to preserve the environment and the community's culture...
PARKING PARKING PARKING AND MORE PARKING. separate customer from produce parking!!!!
Let's be realistic, maganda ba talaga ito? At ang mga bilihin hindi ba mas magiging mahal? Paano naman ung small time vendor? May plans for them as well? Baka nanaman ung may pera lang makinabang dyan. Kase ung huling improvement ginawang business paupahan, kawawa naman ung small time vendor nag tratrabaho nalang pambayad ng rent. Make sure na worth it ang change na ito. May God's will always prevail.
Dapat Mainaun idjay drawing dgjay buildings idjay abay na tapno kapapati.. Haan nga makatotohanan dayta drawing... Baka maaramid ket pangit metlang
With all due respect to the architects and the Mayor, they should have anchored the concept and design guidelines on the vision of the city's original designer, Daniel Burnham, and pursue urban renewal of Baguio as a Heritage City. The proposed design may look hip and modern but it will rob Baguio of its glory days renown for which it was loved and praised by generations of Filipinos and foreigners. Frankly, the proposed design looks like an airport or some monstrous structure in modernizing China.
We dont need this to be proud of baguio, just bring back its glory days. Peace & quiet, clean & green..
it is exciting to hear such modern design but my heart is longing for the old Baguio, peaceful, green and clean air,i wish the priority for my beloved home city is to resolve traffic situation and garbage disposal , more trees and plants ,how i wish that they wouod also resolve the growing population of students and tourists..am not daying reprimand them but maybe make schools or universities or branches to the nearby places and municipalities to accomodate the growing population of students wanting to study in our prestigious schools
Paano po yung mga may rights po jan sa lugar? O Ung mga nag rerenta dn? Saan po lilipat naka pwesto habang ginagawa?
no need i think,,we have a naturally aircon,
Ano pong software ginamit sa pag gawa nyan
i wish to see the interior designs . beauty is deep inside
Lets pray that this Dream shall be realized this time... If I remember right, there was a move in the 90's to develop the public market but it died a natural death due to opposition from some interest groups...Hope this time all stakeholders shall "Move as One"
Its good to renovate Public market by the government not by private sectors. Because it was given by the government to the people. And aside from that it is also better to emphasize the word " PUBLIC MARKET" Which means for the the people TO BUY GOODS and for the FARMERS to sell their vegetables not for their CARS!!!... As far as I am concern market is a heritage area. And it is build before for the people and not a parking area. Treat the people fair...
1990s py nga planu dayta. kitan tayo man nu mangyari
sketchup and others
It is a nice plan if this is Manila, but it is not. This is supposed to be a small town/city where you can get away from the stress of living in big cities but I think they want Baguio to be like Manila, crowded and modernized.Baguio was the best city before not because of the buildings or modern buildings but because of the weather and environment.Baguio can keep up with the rest of the world if we would preserve it like before, clean, fresh air,and less polluted.I love Baguio, since it is my hometown and I am an igorot,it saddens me that all they think of is building modern buildings and they dont care about the environment and old traditions. The old palengke is what makes Baguio unique and the people who makes their living the old way.I am not against keeping up with modern times but why do we have to keep up with it when what we have is what makes us unique and makes our city stand out.Why don’t they do something about the trash, foul smell from canals, diminishing number of trees, don’t they feel the effects of global warming right now?and all they think is building more buildings!Itbis just sad.
