People of Baguio city and the Cordillera are "very disciplined" - Carlito Galvez

Cordillera - The chief implementer of the National Task Force against coronavirus, Mr. Carlito Galvez has attributed the discipline of the people of Baguio city and the Cordillera to the less spread of coronavirus in the region.

"For Baguio city and the Cordillera region, what we see here is the people are very disciplined unlike those from Manila which is the epicenter of the virus because it is hard to implement discipline to them," Galvez said in a statement.

Recently Galvez also praised  the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) for the good practice and effective method that was implemented to prevent the spread of the virus.

"For now I believe kayo and pinaka prepared or ever-prepared, nakikita ko ang CAR na model (For now, I believe you are the most prepared, I can see CAR as the model)," Galvez said during a meeting with the CDRRMC and several mayors in the region.

He also attributed the culture of unity and cooperation among the residents in the region as the uniting factor in preventing the virus.

Galvez said that he will inform the President of the Cordillera's good practices in managing the pandemic.

He also considered adopting the good practices in Baguio and the rest of  CAR as it has been evident that the region has recorded only few cases but with high clinical recovery rate of patients.

President Duterte praises Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong

Cordillera - Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has praised Mayor Benjamin Magalong for the job well done in dealing with the coronavirus threat in Baguio City. 

Duterte said Magalong is a "good administrator" during a televised public address on Friday (May 29, 2020). 

"Dito sa Pilipinas hindi tayo nagkulang ng ano... for example, Benjie sa Baguio (Here in the Philippines, we are not lacking of... for example Benjie of Baguio). He is a very good administrator.

Duterte said Magalong, a former police official, has the ability to craft a government in his jurisdiction. 

"Being a military man, he has that... I said, the... how to craft a government that is really fit for your... in your jurisdiction," he added.

Recently, Covid-19 National Task Force (NTF)Chief implementer has said he will report to the President about how the city of Baguio under the leadership of Magalong has effectively handle the coronavirus threat. 

Galvez also praised the Cordillera region for the good practice and effective method in preventing the spread of the virus.

Baguio City has shown a very efficient response to the pandemic where it recorded only 46 cases with only one death. 

The region has also recorded high clinical recovery rate of Covid-19 patients.

Cordillera is the most prepared region in preventing the spread of coronavirus: Galvez

Cordillera - The chief implementer of the National Task Force against coronavirus Carlito Galvez Jr. has praised the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) for the good practice and effective method in preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
"For now I believe kayo and pinaka prepared or over-prepared, nakita ko ang CAR na model (For now, I believe you are the most prepared, I can see CAR as the model)", Galvez said during a meeting with the CDRRMC and several CAR mayors. 

Galvez also recognized the culture of unity and cooperation among the Igorots and the Ilocanos as factors in making the virus at bay. 

"[The] uniting factor of the Igorots and the Ilocanos, a culture of unity and cooperation as well as being disciplined that is a good strength," he said via the Philippine Information Agency.

Galves said that he will inform the President of the Cordillera's good practices in managing the pandemic. 
Baguio City has shown a very efficient response to the pandemic where it recorded only 46 cases with eight remaining actives and only one death. The region has also recorded high clinical recovery rate of patients.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong has implemented a crime mapping application system used by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in tracing possible coronavirus carrier.

12 Kalinga brave young cadets graduated from PMA "Masidlawin" Class of 2020

Cordillera - The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) "Masidlawin" Class of 2020 will hold its commencement exercise today, May 22, 2020 closed to the public without the usual pomp and pageantry. 

However, parents and relatives can watch the graduation rites through live stream at the PMA's official Facebook page, according to PMA spokesperson. 

12 Kalinga cadets will be joining the graduates in a live stream ceremony. They are:

2. Dappay, Jepeson Addamo (Airforce) - Lacnong, Tabuk city, Kalinga

Baguio resident refuses P5,500 SAP from DSWD because his wife was a beneficiary already

Cordillera - A man from Baguio city who refused to receive money from the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Social Amelioration Program has been commended of social media for his honesty. 
Mr. Lary Pascua, a resident of Barangay San Vicente in Baguio, was praised on social media after his act of honesty was posted by the Baguio City Public Information Office. 

Pascua wrote on his FB account that he will not receive the cash assistance from the DSWD because his wife was already a beneficiary. 

Pascua said that he refused the money because he believed that there are people out there who badly needed the cash more than him. 

He also commented out that he doesn't want to violate the law because he might face the consequence if he accepted the money

"Thank you po nakapasok ako pero hindi ko na kukunin dahil nakapasok na din ang misis ko at alam kong daming nangangailangan at ayaw ko din lumabag sa batas kaya antay lang po tayo stay safe and God bless us all," Pascua said.
Many netizens praised Pascua for his action.

"Salute to you sir. I wish others who have sources of income will waive the money because other people need it more," one netizen said.

Another netizen said, "Honesty is what we need if there are names that were listed twice so that the money will be given to others."

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera reported that the total funds downloaded to the Local Government Units for the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) amounts to P1,307,412,500.00, according to the Philippine Information Agency.

As of 8PM of April 19, 2020, a total of P488,555,850.00 was already disbursed to 103,563 beneficiaries who have received the SAP-AICS Assistance.

Baguio Athletic Bowl Soon to Become a World-Class Sport Facility

Cordillera - The city government of Baguio is now working on to making one of the known landmark in the city, the Baguio Athletic Bowl to a world-class sport  facility.

The agency that was tasked to study the project is now finalizing the details and it said that the proposed plan could cost around P4.3 billion.

The project will be undertaken under the public-private partnership (PPP) after all the requirements have been finalized.

Under the Term of Reference dated September 2012 the city council of Baguio approved the development of the following facilities to be of international standards:


- reconstruction of the grandstand to accommodate 4,000 - 5,000 seats
- reconstruction of  indoor swimming pool
- reconstruction of  tennis court, table tennis and basketball court
- building of indoor simulation golf range, convention rooms, restaurants and sports-related shops.




The proposed project also includes construction of lightning system for night games and bleachers that can accommodate 3,000 people.

It can be recalled that the City Council ordered the City Building and Architecture Office (CBAO) to submit the development plan as the legislative body  expressed fear that budget  will go to waste if not used.
