Cordillera - When Typhoon Egay struck the old school in Dagadag, Balili, Mankayan, Benguet last year, it highlighted the need for a new, resilient, and student-friendly learning facility to support the children of local farming families.
In response, the GMA Kapuso Foundation, in collaboration with its partners, spearheaded the construction of three new classrooms, complete with restrooms, at Dagadag Elementary School to provide students with safe, conducive spaces to learn.
Construction began on February 29, 2024, and was completed by May 21, 2024, at a total cost of Php 4,380,497. This project was a collective effort made possible by the GMA Kapuso Foundation, the local government, and the Department of Education.
The spirit of Binnadang—or community cooperation—was strongly present throughout the project. Soldiers from the 51st Infantry Battalion, along with parents and residents of Balili, actively participated under the guidance of GMAKF engineers and contractors, contributing their time and effort to bring the project to life.
GMA Kapuso Foundation Inc., established by GMA Network Inc. in 1991, is a socio-civic organization committed to improving lives through impactful social programs and outreach. Over the years, its projects have touched countless communities, uplifting lives across the nation.
