Cordillera-  The Philippine National Police (PNP) has installed Brig. Gen. Jesus Cambay Jr. as the  new Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director in Zamboanga City.
Cambay's  appointment as the PRO-9 director took effect on June 4 and will be leading the 8,000 strong men and women of the command to cover the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga Sibugay including the cities of Isabela and Zamboanga.

The appointment of Cambay as the new director has been approved by Gamboa upon the recommendations of the Senior Officers Placement and Promotion Board.

Prior to his new appointment, he was assigned as the director of PNP Intelligence Group in March this year. He served as  the Deputy Regional Director for Administration (DRDA) and Deputy Director for Operations (DRO) of Police Regional Office-6 in Western Visayas.

He was also designated as Commander of the Metro Boracay Task Force (MBTF) leading 600 police personnel of Kalibo, Aklan in the peaceful and orderly rehabilitation of the famous Boracay Beach.

In February last year, he was promoted to one-star rank in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Cambay, who is a native of Lagawe Ifugao,  has served the Cordillera region most of  his career in the police office.

He once served as the director of the Baguio City Police Office and initiated programs and projects that further strengthened the peacemaking efforts of the city's police force.

During his watch as BCPO chief, Baguio's crime volume decreased. He has institutionalized the centralization and computerization of the issuance of confiscated license plates and driver's license in order to prevent personal discretion of the traffic police officers that might result to abuse of authority.
He also served in various PNP units such as PRO-6, PRO-A4, The National Capital Region Police office, Highway patrol group, Directorate for Intelligence and PRO-Cordillera prior to becoming the BCPO chief.

Showing a strong passion in his career, Cambay's accomplishments received commendations as  he was once promoted by Camp Crame for leading a police operation causing the neutralization of the solid Ifugao Gang and Baggay Gang, who were involved in high-profile robberies in the Cordillera and regions 1, 2 and 3.

Cambay is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) "Makatao"  Class of 1989.
