Cordillera - Dani Florendo is an award-winning illustrator and budding author for children's books based, born, raised and based in Baguio City.
She has received multiple recognitions as an illustrator, including
inclusion in the 2023 International White Ravens Catalogue and being a
Catholic Mass Media Awards finalist for "The Perfect Tree" written by Glory
Moralidad. She also won the Children's Choice Award for Doc Luis Gatmaitan's
Palanca Award-winning story "Maselan Ang Tanong ng Batang si Usman" in 2020.
Additionally, Dani served as a National Judge for the Gawad Teodora Alonso
Storybook Competition hosted by DepEd in 2023.
Recently, she became a Philippine delegate for the 2024 Asian Festival for Children's Content: Country of Focus Philippines, where she also participated in panel discussions on culture and illustration.
Dani works with books that talk about culture, particularly stories from the North. Her first illustrated book “Balitanay’s Laktob” by weaver and cultural bearer Renalyn Albert and Social Anthropologist and Professor Analyn “Ikin” ”Salvador-Amores Ph.D. of the University of the Philippines Baguio.
She will be releasing her debut collaboration children's book with the IP Community of Balbalan Kalinga, “Kafudfuden Shin Lijang Uta: The Legend of Uta Cave” later this year published by Aklat Alamid. The story is a retelling of the origin story of the famous Uta cave in Balbalan Kalinga and will be told in their Salogsog Language.
When not illustrating, Dani engages in research work with indigenous communities in the Cordilleras and around Northern Luzon for her creative outputs. She is an advocate for promoting children's literacy through pro-bono workshops and book
projects.
