Cordillera - A proud Igorota who both loved music and boxing recorded a technical knock out win when she defeated her foe via 2nd round TKO at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City on August 7, 2022.

39-year old Rica Aquino who hails from Besao and Sagada, Mountain Province showed how powerful an Igorota is when she demolished fellow Filipina foe Erika Ballen in the 2nd round.

Rica studied music from the University of the Philippines and and taught music at Brent International School but her fascination with combat sport since she was a child has motivated her to pursue professional boxing.

“I have been fascinated with fighting sports (even as a child) but as a child playing the violin and as a professional musician, I was restricted in terms of the sports I wanted to do,” Rica related. “So I took up combat sports when I was an adult already and after I had resigned from the orchestra.”

Rica took up Muay Thai and was a silver medalist in a National Games, then took up mixed martial arts under the famed Team Lakay of Mark Sangiao.

Asked why she loved combat sports than music, Rica admitted she love the competitive aspect of the sport, the discipline, and risk and thrill of competing.

She is looking forward to becoming a professional boxer now that she won a convincing technical knockout is her boxing career.
