UC's Startup 'Para Po' to Represent Cordillera Region in Philippine StartUp Challenge 8 Grand Finals

Cordillera - Team Enigma Co. from University of the Cordilleras composed of members Carl Justin Masedman, Ryzel Felizco, Synne Navalta, mentor Dana Salvador, and their Startup 'Para Po' will represent Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) at Cebu City on December 6, 2023 for the Grand Finals of the Philippine StartUp Challenge 8.

The team emerged as the overall champion besting 54 startup entries across the Cordillera Region during the recently concluded Philippine Startup Challenge 8 (PSC8) - Regional Pitching Competition.

Garnering a total score of 84.8%, their innovation “Para Po” was named the most viable startup idea among 54 entries submitted for this year’s PSC edition, according to DICT Cordillera.

“Para Po!" is a jeepney-centric mobile navigation app that will enable users to locate jeepney terminals, view routes, and access other public transportation information. The product aims to address the issues people encounter when commuting in a few clicks.

Cordilleran among topnotchers in the August 2023 Psychologists Licensure Examination

Cordillera - Maricris Payagen Lad-ey Neyney from the University of the Cordilleras (UC) emerges among the topnotchers in the just concluded August 2023 Psychologists Licensure Examination. 

Maricris achieved a remarkable 85.05 percent rating claiming the 7th spots among the topnotchers. 

Currently serving as the chief of the Human Resource Development Office at Benguet State University (BSU), Maricris has not only illuminated her personal path but also become a shining inspiration to aspiring psychologists.

Maricris' achievement is a testament to her unwavering commitment and relentless pursuit of excellence but also reflects the quality of education imparted by the University of the Cordilleras.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced that 339 out of 468 passed the Psychologists Licensure Examination given by the Board of Psychology in N. C. R., Cebu, Davao, Legazpi, Pampanga and Rosales this August 2023.

SLU and UC among Best Law Schools in the country in 2019

Cordillera - The legal education board has released the top performing law schools in the Philippines from the previous 2019 Bar Examinations.
Two universities in the Cordillera had been named among the best law schools in the country in 2019. 

These are the Saint Louis University (SLU) and the University of the Cordilleras (UC). 

SLU made it to rank 8 with a score of 51.92 percent while UC landed in rank 9 with a score of 45.90 percent.

The category threshold is based on the average number of examinees per school in the last 4 bar examinations, which is 63, according to Legal Education Board notice.

Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines (UP) ranked first with 82.46 percent passing rate followed by the Ateneo de Manila University and San Beda University with 81.48 percent and 77.55 percent passing rate respectively.

Three Best Criminology schools in the Philippines to study Criminology.

Cordillera - University of the Cordilleras (UC) ranked 1st in the list of 70 Top Criminology Schools in the Philippines for the year 2019. 

Based on the results of the two criminologist licensure examinations in June and November 2019 including program accreditation status and faculty-student ratio, UC emerged on top of the list with an overall score of 87.02 percent besting other colleges and universities in the country. 

University of the Cordilleras is among the 7 colleges and universities accredited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as Centers of Excellence (COE) in criminal justice education including the discipline of criminology. 

Also in the list is the University of Baguio (UB) which made it to the 2nd spot with an overall score of 83.01%. 

Another Cordillera-based university that made it to the top list is Ifugao State University in Lamut, Ifugao. It was ranked in the 4th spot with 74.71% overall score.

The ranking which was conducted by Local Pulse School Ranking used 5 performance indicators including Weighted Overall School Board Performance in a Year (40%); Number of Total Examinees (20%); Top Performing Examinees (10%); Level of Accreditation (20%); and Faculty-Student Ratio (20%).

Local Pulse School Rankings is created to guide students who are planning to take any degree program in one of the colleges and universities in the country.

The University of the Cordilleras formerly Baguio Colleges Foundation (BCF) is a private university located in Baguio City.

UC and SLU among top 15 in the 5th Philippine Startup Challenge by DICT

Cordillera - Two of Cordillera's top universities are among the 15 finalists of the 5th Philippine Startup Challenge by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT).

The University of the Cordilleras (UC) and Saint Louis University in Baguio city together with other finalists coming from different universities across the country were named by the DICT to compete in the final round on April 5, 2019 at the Grand Xing Hotel in Iloilo City.
The top 15 finalists out of the 30 semifinalists were handpicked by the selection committee made up of tech and business startup leaders.

These 15 universities have the most promising startup ideas from their students and they will be competing in the final round next month.

According to the DICT, the finalists were chosen based on customer validation (40%), execution and design (30%) and business model validation (30%).

Qualifying startup ideas for this year range from off-the grid charging device solution to web-based application for donations.

The PSC5 Top five Winners will receive Php200,000.00 each from the Department of Science and Technology's Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) to assist the teams in product prototype development.

The PSCC5 National Winner will also become part of Huawie's Seeds of the Future Program, a two-week college undergraduate study program to be held in China that shall equip them with ICT-based skills and knowledge. They also automatically qualify for the 2019 IdeaSpaceBootcamp.

The University of the Cordilleras Team Y.A.N.A's startup idea is called Proximap, an augmented reality advertising and navigation mobile application. It uses Geolocation as well as voice and image recognition.

Meanwhile Qantina from Team Magis of Saint Louis University is a platform that lets college students, officer workers or health buff to order and have meals delivered from home-cooks, aspiring chefs or restaurants around them.

The other startup from SLU is called Qrent developed by Team Victorem. It is a web-based and mobile platform that is designed for safe, secured, and convenient rental transaction between renter and item owners.

Cordillera IT students among the best programmers in the country: Win award at PPC 2017

Baguio City - A team of Information Technology (IT) students taking up programming course from the University of Cordilleras (UC) has won award in the recently concluded programming competition of the third Philippine Programming Competition (PPC 2017). 


The team bagged the 4th place in the said programming contest which was organized by Gurango Software Corporation through CodersGuild.NET and in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NCIP). 

One student in the team is the top scorer besting 60 participants from universities all over the country. 

The PPC is an annual programming competition that aims to identify talented entry-level programmers in the country by utilizing an automated assessment tool, localized for the specific needs of the Philippine software industry. 

The PPC has opened the competition to all 3rd and 4th year college students taking up courses in programming. 

For this run of the competition, participating student teams composed of ten (10) members representing colleges and universities from different parts of the country, took the PPC 2017 examination individually. Individual scores per team were tallied and six teams with the highest average score were named finalist.

The six colleges and universities that got into the final were Holy Angel University, Technological Institute of the Philippines-QC Campus, University of the Cordilleras, University of Cebu-Banilad Campus and Cebu Institute of Technology-University.

The competition 1st placer was a IT student team of the Technological Institute of the Philippines - Quezon City Campus.
