Cordillera - A movie "Giting at Tapang" (Heroism and Bravery) is set to aired next month to honor a Cordilleran hero soldier who was killed during the Marawi siege in 2017.

Corporal Gener Tinangag who hails from Barlig Mt. Province lost his life while saving his wounded comrades amidst heavy machine gunfire and grenades from the enemies.

Tinangag showed the ultimate heroism and bravery when he did not retreat from rescuing his comrades despite being shot to the stomach by the enemy sniper and peppered with grenade shrapnel.

On July 10, 2021, President Duterte awarded the Medal of Valor (Medalya ng Kagitingan) to Corporal Tinangag.

The Valor award is the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) highest military honor “awarded for a conspicuous deed of personal bravery or self-sacrifice above and beyond the call of duty that distinguishes the recipient from his comrades.”

Tinangag's heroism and bravery will never be forgotten but most of all, his self-sacrifice for saving four wounded Marines and extracting a slain comrade all by himself during the Marawi siege.

The Igorot heroism will once again be honored during the Marine birthday celebration this coming November 7, 2021.
