Police Cordillera awarded the best Regional Law Enforcers in the entire country


Police Regional Office Cordillera has again proven its competence after bagging two awards of being the Best Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee (RLECC) in Luzon and in the National Level during the Command Conference at Camp Crame last Friday.

The award was received by Cordillera Police Regional Director Chief Superintendent Elmo Francisc Oco Sarona from the NALECC Chairman and PNP Chief, Police Director General Ronald De La Rosa.

The award is a result of the concerted effort of all the members of the RLECC. They work hard with dedication for the successful conduct of impact programs, projects and activities for the period from July 15, 2015 to July 15, 2016 that contributed immensely to the attainment of the NALECC’s goals and objectives.

The RLECC is composed of different government agencies and partners from the private sector with a role of formulating law enforcement policies that are currently being implemented, providing inputs and recommendations and enabling the passage of important legislations affecting the country's peace and order, its economy and environment.

Moreover, PRO-COR has garnered a high percentage accomplishment of 171%, exemplary surpassing the target in accounting drug personalities during the implementation of Campaign Plan: Double Barrel Alpha for the period October 26 to December 7, 2016. This significantly contributing to the attainment of a drug0free Philippines.

La-Trinidad will be smoke-free starting January 2017


Cordillera - The local government of La-Trinidad will soon implement the Smoke-Free Ordinance that hopes to get tobacco smokers out from public places January 2017.

The Smoke-Free Ordinance No. 8-2018 aims to regulates, smoking, selling, distribution and advertisement of tobacco products and impose penalties for violators.

The said ordinance prohibits smoking at any designated smoke-free areas and establishment, prohibits selling, giving or distributing tobacco products to minor, prohibits distributing and advertising tobacco products in school, public playground or any other facility frequented by minors or within one hundred meters from any point of the perimeter and prohibits buying tobacco from minors.

Penalties will be strictly imposed to the violators of the said ordinance.

Meanwhile, the religious sectors of La-Trinidad expressed their support to the ordinance and committed to help the government in promoting it through spiritual reforms.

Award-winning writer from Benguet awarded by President Duterte as among Outstanding Young Men and Women

Cordillera - A proud Ibaloi, Dr. Ryan Guinaran was awarded among the 2016 Outstanding Men and Women of the Philippines by President Rodrigo Duterte at the Malacanang Palace on December 12.

Dr. Ryan C. Guinaran, 29-year old is an Ibaloi from Kabayan, Benguet. He was awarded one of the TOYM 2016 by the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines for his volunteering work and advocating the welfare of the indigenous people of Cordillera.

He was a consistent academic, community service and leadership awardee during this schooling years and was active Pahinungod volunteer. He pursued his medical degree at the UP College of Medicine and graduated in 2002.

In his volunteering work and countless medical mission, he was exposed to the plight of the Indigenous people of the cordillera. Seeing the great problem in his very own region, he decided to stay and offer his medical expertise in his hometown Kabayan and had declined the attractive job offers abroad.


Dr, Guinaran was also an advocate in the regaining of the Ibaloi culture and identity. He spearheaded the Ibaloi "Cultural Renaisance" which aims revive the Ibaloi culture such as Ibaloi poetry, music, arts and folklore.

Dr, Guinaran deserved this years award and the Ibaloi and Cordilleran people are very proud of him. He is a fine example of a life dedicated to a mission to make a difference in the life of his kababayan in the Cordillera.

Mountain Province opens up scholarship program for Medical Doctors


Bontoc, Mountain Province - The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bontoc has enacted an ordinance establishing the Mountain Province Doctors Scholarship Program which aims to address the shortage of medical doctors in the provincial government -run hospital, the Philippine Information Agency reports.

According to the report,"the provincial government shall shoulder the actual cost of the grantee's tuition fees inclusive of laboratory fees but not exceed P50,000. The tuition fee shall be directly paid to the school where the grantee is enrolled.

Included in the scholarship program are book allowance of P10,000 per semester, uniform allowance of P4,000 per year, monthly living allowance of P10,000 for five months on each semester which include lodging and transportation expenses.

Requirements for interested applicants are the following:

1. Must be fresh enrollees to the medical course.
2. Must have passed the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) having at least an average or 80%.
3. Must be a native of Mountain Province.
4. Must be phisically and mentally fit and in good moral character.
5. Must not be more than 35 years of age upon admission.
6. Parent's annual income must not be more than P360,000.
7. He must passed the required interview.

Interested applicants are required to submit transcript or record, birth certificate, certified copy of NMAT rating, income tax return of parents or his/her own tax return for the two immediate preceding years. Submit also at leats two certificates of good moral character from the parish priest, Baraga Chairman or any respected elder in the community.

After funishing all the necessary application papers and require documents, applicants can submit them to the Office of the Provincial Governor which will be transmitted to the Committee of Assesment.

Grade 10 student stabbed 60 times in Baguio City

Cordillera Region - Authorities are now in a manhunt to capture the suspects in the brutal killing of a young student in Baguio City.

The victim was a Grade 10 student of the Pines City National High School (PCNHS) who sustained 60 stabs on the different parts of his body after he was robbed.

The incident happened along Labsan Street, Kayang Extension early Tuesday morning when the victim was on his way to school.

Authorities said three unidentified knife-wielding suspects allegedly took the victim's cellphone, tablet and cash worth P200.

Police investigators showed the victim was stabbed 40 times on his neck using an ice pick and 20 times on the different parts of the body.

The victim was rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) but was declared dead on arrival due to heavy blood loss.

3 Universities in the Cordillera are top performing in criminology exam


Three universities in the Cordillera were among the top performing schools in the recently concluded criminology licensure exams given last October 2016.

These are the University of the Cordilleras (UC) which ranked the first with a percentage passing rate of 95.16%, King's College of the Philippines - Benguet (KCP) ranked 3rd with a passing rate of 88.57% and Ifugao State University - Lamut (IFSU) ranked 4th with a percentage passing rate of 83.33%.

Meanwhile Tarlac State University and Data Center College in Laog city filled the 2nd and 5th ranked respectively.

The October 2016 Criminology licensure exams administered by the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Criminology resulted in having 10,901 passed out of the 34,768 who took the exam.

Christine Joy Almaro Capalar filled the 1st spot of the top 10 passers with a rating of 91.55% followed by Genzy Pastolero in the 2nd spot who got a rating of 90.85%. Both of them graduate from Sultan Kudarat in Mindanao.

Cordilleran fighter Banario won an impressive victory at the ONE: Age of Domination

Honorio Banario once again bring back the honor and glory to the world, as he showcased an impressive victory at the ONE Championship: Age of Domination on Dec. 2.

Banario fought the best he could in the cage against his Indian opponent Rajinder Meena forcing the latter to tap out in two minutes.

The 27-year old Cordilleran cage warrior from the Team Lakay displayed power and fighting skills in the cage that made his opponent less impressive.

The fight finished with under two minutes remaining in the first round after Banario took the chance to caught Meena locked in the left armbar.

Honorio Banario improves his win by 11-6.

Two months from now and the most colorful and exiting festival in Baguio City will kick off. The Panagbenga Festival, locally translated from Booming Flowers Festival which is celebrated every year during the month of February. 

The festival is a grandeur event where you can see colorful and blooming flower parade and the display of different varieties of flower which originally planted in Baguio and some part of Cordillera.

Student from the University of the Cordilleras among the top 10 LET Board Passers.

The recent announcement of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has a total of more than 54,700 passers from the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) conducted on September 25th, 2016 in different test centers in the country.

The PRC announced that there were 23,378 out of the 77,466  who passed the exam in the elementary level while there were about 31,334 from the 92,745 secondary examinees.

The University of the Cordilleras (UC)is among the universities who has a students included in the top 10.

Shayne Klarisse Buduan Eclarin of The University of the Cordilleras along with three other teachers are in top 4 with an average score of 87.40.
