Ajinomoto opens applications for postgraduate scholarship in Japan

MAKATI CITY, Dec. 21 -- Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) announces that it is opening its application for its 2022 postgraduate scholarship in Japan. The annual program is open to deserving Filipino students who require financial assistance to pursue higher education in the field of sciences.

The Ajinomoto Postgraduate Scholarship Grant will fully fund a student’s master’s degree at top universities in Japan, including the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Nagoya University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ochanomizu University, Waseda University, and Kagawa Nutrition University.

“We invite Filipino students and graduates to seize this opportunity to learn from the top universities in Japan without having to worry about finances. We believe in supporting local talents as future innovators because they help build innovations for wellness that will benefit the Filipino people,” says Roann Co, APC’s General Manager of Marketing and Public Relations.

Selected scholars will receive financial support for a maximum of three years so that they can fully focus on their research and studies. The grant also provides full coverage of two-way airfare, admission, tuition, and other costs such as Japanese language training and the student’s monthly allowance.

Since the inception of the scholarship grant, APC has sent 11 Filipino scholars, including the 2020 recipient John Andrew Kane Jovellana, who was accepted at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Engineering. Despite initial travel restrictions due to the pandemic, the Ajinomoto Scholarship Foundation was able to provide assistance to help Mr. Jovellana complete his enrollment and admission to the University of Tokyo.

The prestigious university also counts Ma. Leah Borines and Rogie Royce Carandang as proud alumni sponsored by the Ajinomoto grant. Borines is currently undertaking her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the University of Connecticut while Carandang is an assistant professor at the University of Tokyo.

“Studying at the University of Tokyo was eye-opening because I learned so many things I wouldn’t have learned in other places. I was always inspired when coming to classes because I knew I could use the experience to make a difference for the Philippines,” reveals Borines.

I wouldn’t have achieved my professional dreams if not for the grant,” shares Carandang.

The scholarship grant is one of Ajinomoto’s key efforts to support education and the sciences in the Philippines. The company is always at the forefront of science-based conversations about food’s role in good health, nutrition, and well-being. Through the grant, APC aims to contribute more to the field and help spread wellness through innovation.

“This grant is Ajinomoto’s way of supporting the educational pursuits of Filipinos who will play an important role in developments in wellness and good health. We hope more Filipinos can be part of this vision so we can further improve the health industry. The first step is to send their applications,” says Co.
