Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) to open its own dialysis center soon

Cordillera - The Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) located in La Trinidad, Benguet will soon open its own dialysis center to cater the needs of patients needing kidney dialysis treatment.

Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas said the provincial local government has allotted 5 million pesos for the rehabilitation of the hospital's Annex A Building to serve as a Dialysis Center that is expected to be finished this month (January 2021).

A total of 10 units of dialysis machine will be provided by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Benguet PLU has already hired personnel to operate the machines, according Governor Diclas.

Diclas has been expediting the rehabilitation of the facility so the dialysis units will be used and that more patients will be catered for.

The existing dialysis centers in BeGH and at the Provincial Health Office (Benguet Renal Center, Inc. and Benguet Premium Kidney Care Center, Inc) are two "free-standing" dialysis centers renting at the building.

Dr. Meliarazon Dulay, BeGH Acting Chief of Hospital, said once the machines from the DOH are available, the accreditation and license to operate from the DOH will be processed to finally open the BeGH dialysis center.

Cordillera - To make it easier for the people of Benguet and nearby provinces to seek financial assistance from the different agencies of the government, a Malasakit Center was being proposed to be established at Benguet General Hospital (BeGH).

Department of Health (DOH) undersecretary Roger P. Tong-an said that DOH is planning to put up Malasakit Center in BeGH like what the Baguio General Medical Center (BGHMC) has.

"We are planning to put up Malasakit Center in BeGH. So kayong mga nangangailangan ng tulong, hindi na kayo pupunta at pipila sa DSWD, Pagcor, Philhealth, pupunta na lang kayo sa Malasakit Center ng BeGH," DOH undersecretary Tong-an said during the public consultation on the proposed bill for the transfer of BeGH to DOH.

The Malasakit center is a one-stop shop where poor and indigent patients in need of medical assistance will go to avail of medical help from the government.

The center is usually manned by representative of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

The center eases the burden being experienced by relatives of patients who have no enough finances to pay for hospital bills including medicines.

The funds of the Malasakit Center  for medical and financial assistance would come from the budget of concerned agencies with programs for the poor and indigents patients.

Benguet caretaker Cong. Yap passes bill to improve BeGH and much better pay for hospital staff

Cordillera - Appointed Benguet Caretaker Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party List Congressman Eric Go Yap passed House Bill No. 6171 on Wednesday.

The bill aims to restore the management of the Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) to the national government and increases the current bed capacity of the hospital from 200 to 400.

Cong. Yap said returning the management of BeGH to the national government would ensure bigger and continues funds for the hospital and not just rely on the funds of the provincial government and the hospital's own fund.

Yap added that re-nationalizing of the hospital will increase the salary of the staff like nurses. He said that nurses should be receiving salary grade SG 15 (Php32,000) and not SG 9 (Php17,975)

"Upang makatiyak tayo na malaki at tuloy-tuloy and pondong mailalaan para sa hospital at hindi lang basta aasa sa pondo ng Provincial Government at sariling kita ng ospital," Cong. Yap said in a statement.

He added that turning the hospital to the government will benefit those who need medical help due to the level of health service provided by the government.

"Dahil dito, lubos na makikinabang ang mga nangangailangan ng tulong medical dahil maitataas ang antas ng health service delivery ng hospital," he said.

House Bill No. 6171 is the first bill Cong. Yap had passed since assuming post as an appointed caretaker of Benguet.

On January 29, Cong. Yap was welcomed by Benguet officials and employees during his visit to the province.

In a speech, he assured that he will do whatever he can for the development of the province and its constituents.

He also said that he will continue the work of the late Congressman Nestor B. Fongwan Sr.
